Embedded System Design Digital Assignment 1: RFID Interfacing With 8051 Microcontroller

This document discusses a project to interface an EM-18 RFID reader with an 8051 microcontroller to display RFID card numbers on a 16x2 LCD display. The project aims to automate personal identification checking using RFID tags for a quick and efficient workflow. Requirements include reading RFID tags, displaying tag numbers, and checking for errors. The design will utilize an 8051 microcontroller, EM-18 RFID reader, 16x2 LCD display, RFID cards/tags, and other hardware components.

RFID Interfacing with 8051 Microcontroller

As we know personal identification checking can be quite hectic. So its automation was
required for quick and efficient work flow. Techniques including various biometrics like iris,
Heartbeat, Fingerprint , Face have been used. These Techniques can be quite computational
heavy and costly. So introducing RFID tags and their sensors for Identification can be quite
portable.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) uses radio frequency to read information stored in a
RFID card or tag. In this project we are going to Interface EM-18 RFID reader with 8051
microcontroller and display RFID card number on 16*2 LCD display. This wireless RF
Identification is used in many systems like RFID Based Attendance System, security systems,
voting machines etc. This project will also serve as a proper interfacing of 16*2 LCD with
8051 microcontroller.
Requirements:

 Functional Requirements:
a) It should be able to read the RFID tag using the sensor
b) It should display the RFID tag number
c) It should Check for any errors while detecting and displaying RFID numbers
d) Real-time tracking and locating of assets within MIMOS‟ predefined labs or
departments or areas within MIMOS premises
e) Real-time visibility of mobile and high value assets with real time tracking,
monitoring and security features
f) Automated asset auditing and stock count
g) Automated and real-time reporting of asset movement and locations
h) Automated recording of assets taken out through the exit doors .
i) Automated alert and notification system on unauthorized asset movement or status
 Non Functional Requirements:
a) Operability: The Simualtion will be developed under Windows platform. The
application will run on windows 7 and above.
b) Maintainability: The application is specifically for Windows 10 \
c) Security: The system shall provide access to only registered users. The authorized
users will login to the application
d) Performance: The application will process attendance information as faster as
possible from the moment of submission.
