Contactless Controlled Switch For Smart Home: Under The Guidance of B.Venkateswarulu Naik Sir (Asst Professor)

This project aims to implement a contactless controlled switch that can operate home appliances like lights and fans through hand gestures to reduce surface contact during the COVID-19 pandemic. The switch uses an infrared sensor and Arduino microcontroller to detect hand movements and signals a relay to control connected appliances. It allows for hands-free operation of devices and lowers infection risk compared to traditional switches. Some applications include use in smart homes, industries, and for military and home automation purposes. The experimental prototype was able to successfully control sample appliances through hand gestures.

INTRODUCTION
• In order to avoid the risk of contact during Covid-19, it is important not to touch surfaces
including switches, doorknobs, and keys that have been frequently used by other people.
This project is for a contactless switch that works with hand gestures.

• This smart switch includes a sensor that can detect hand movements and translate them into
commands for controlling lights, fans, and various other home appliances. .
PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The objective of this project is to implement reliable and

scalable Contactless controlled switch, which can be
operated by the gestures of hand by ower the risk of
touching the surface of switches that are frequently used by
other too.
REQUIREMENTS
HARDWARE COMPONENTS
Arduino UNO R3 –1
IR Sensor–1
channel Relay-1
5v Adaptor
Appliances
Jumper wires
SOFTWARE REQUIRED
Arduino IDE
ARDUINO UNO R3
● The Arduino Uno is an open
source microcontroller board
based on the Atmega328
developed by Arduino.cc.The
board is equipped with sets of
digital and analog input/output
pins that may be interfaced to
various expansion boards and
other circuits.
INFRARED(IR)SENSOR
● The An infrared sensor used in an electronic
device, that emits in order to sense some
aspects of the surroundings. An IR sensor
can measure the heat of anobject as well as
detects the motion.
● This circuit compromises the following
components :
LM358 IC
IR transmitter and receiver
varaible resistors
LED(light emitting diode)
CHANNEL RELAY
• Channel 5V Relay Module is a relay interface board, it
can be controlled directly by a wide range of
microcontrollers such as Arduino, AVR, PIC, ARM and so
on. It uses a low level triggered control signal (3.3-5VDC)
to control the relay. Triggering the relay operates the
normally open or normally closed contacts.
• The Relay Module is used for controlling a circuit by one
signal or when many circuits must be controlled by one
signal. Thus making it a primarily switching device.
WORKING

• User : Inputs a movements of hand or object in given proximity.

• Sensor : Detects the movements, deduces it and passes it to the device.
• Performs the task as conveyed by the movement.
• LEDs give a visual hint of the ON/OFF status of appliances.

APPLICATIONS
• Future of Virtual Reality.
• Vision Acquisition.
• Sensor application areas.
• Used for various applications in

    2.Military.
    3.Home Automation... Etc
CONCLUSION
● The CONTACTLESS CONTROLLED SWITCH has been experimentally
proven to work satisfactorly by conneting sample applianceswere
successfullycontrolled by the smart switch by the hand movements.
● In building energy, power control system can play an important role by
continuously and seamlessly the building energy use, which lays the
foundation of energy efficiency in the school buildings. The project
constructed and implemented with a lighting module. It can detect motion
and then let the relay circuit actuate the lighting to work to maximum
intensity. The results show that the implemented module is functional and
the proposed system can beuseful for energy saving purpose.
