Purpose Standard procedure to perform welding work at designated area by Trained Welder

Scope Includes Welding machine shifting & welding work as one of the sub-activity of any work in plant premises

Hazards Ignition of flammable, Fire, Electric shock

Preparation:
1 1) “GET PTW & PREPARE SITE SPECIFIC – JOB SPECIFIC JSA TO IDENTIFY OTHER HAZARD” PA
2) Only Trained & certified Welder shall do welding work.

3) Identify fire-watcher & inspect the area. Take precaution as advised by Fire-watcher.
Shifting of welding machine:
1) Check Green Tag & ensure validity date. If not available/expired – get it tested before use.
2 2) Check all wheel before start shifting. Welder
3) Pull with handle only.
4) March machine on level floor only.
3 Communicate Electrical Dept. for connection of Welding machine PA/Site supervisor

1) Press test button to check healthiness of


RCCB.

4) Check for condition of machine & green tag validity

5) Ensure proper fixing of welding lead socket/lugs & no


looseness/heating. Ensure tightness of all joints with spanner XX.
2) Check for any damage of Welder
power cable. 7) Ensure welding holder in place & insulation is proper.

9) Ensure proper lead jointing thru socket.

Precaution before welding:
1) Remove flammable material within radius of 11 meter (35 Feet) or if not possible, use fire blanket/metal sheet.
2) Use sheet/fire blanket to restrict fall of flux.

4) Collect fire-extinguisher – check pressure gauge in green – inspect extinguisher – keep near to worksite.

6) Ensure “Proper illumination – good weather”

7) Wear Leather apron - hand gloves - leg guard - hand guard – Welding face shield before starting welding.
8) Instruct workmen in vicinity to wear leather hand gloves & welding face shield/black goggles
9) Do not perform welding – if raining or holder in wet condition.
10) Do not roll/coil welding lead while in use – it may caught fire due to heating. Lay welding lead evenly.
11) Communicate Fire watcher about starting of welding work.
12) Ensure fume extractor/exhaust available & in operations.
6 Perform welding as per requirement & complete welding work. Welder
7 Communicate fire watcher about completion of work – advice for inspection area after 30 min. Welder
8 Switch-off power when machine not in use. Welder
9 Nobody should touch metal piece, till it’s cool down.
8 Remove scrap – retrieve tools/tackles – roll welding lead - do housekeeping of the area. Workmen
