What Is Scientism? Why Was Lewis Against It?

Lewis was against the view of scientism for several reasons: 1) Scientism ties all of reality and relevance to just science and technology, ignoring other ways of knowing like religion or philosophy. 2) People who are not interested in or able to understand science may not be able to protect themselves from it or evaluate its claims, and science could eventually take control of the universe in a way that disregards humanity. 3) A person's morals and ideas will not be taken into account if science is seen as having predetermined our fate. Lewis saw science as a type of power that could threaten humanity and the environment if not grounded in moral considerations outside of itself.

1. What is scientism? Why was Lewis against it?

 Scientism, as we all know, is a broad view of the cosmos that ties to the
reality and relevance of what we have in our world in terms of science and
technology. Even before then, we accepted scientific information, and as we
can see, there is a conflict between the bible and science. Embracing science
appears to imply accepting a variety of philosophical viewpoints, which might
lead to a conflict to establish a certain point. Lewis is not completely opposed
to scientism contrary, he opposes it. Science, both now and in the past, has
proven different arguments, and science, in reality, maybe a dependable
source of knowledge on the current issues that we face in the world. Lewis,
on the other hand, was terrified of today's rejection and standard. People who
are not interested in science are often unable to protect themselves, and
there will be no humanity as technology advances and takes control of the
cosmos, and we all know that if science takes control of the universe,
catastrophe will inevitably come. One thing Lewis is certain of is that a
person's morals and ideas will not be taken into account because science has
already predetermined our fate.

2. Science was compared science to magic in 3 ways: as religion, as

credulity, and as power. Explain his comparison for each case.
 As Religion - In terms of the relationship between religion and science,
according to Lewis, is crucial. Why? It is because religion provides us with
individual direction and has taught us a range of marvels that are unrelated to
science and technology. On the other hand, science is only a field in which it
might be the cause or the result of a given circumstance. Religion and
science are, in fact, incompatible in terms of knowledge. Furthermore, I
discovered that Lewis had a difficult time defining religion, but the problem is
that he just had a perspective on it.
 As Credulity - The second point Lewis made was that of credulity. People
are readily convinced by what they hear, even if there is no explanation,
according to science. In fact, Lewis plainly thinks that people should be aware
of all proofs or evidences and that before investing our money in them, we
should double-check them for authenticity and to ensure that we have
accurate information.
 As Power - The power, as Lewis articulated it in relation to science, is the
final portion. Science is a dangerous form of power that is intimately linked to
magic and poses a threat to the future environment. How? Science, like
technology, is developing what humans can accomplish, robots can do as
well. One quick mistake with the invention might put the surrounding in threat,
resulting in a difficult core circumstance that each individual may face.

3. Based on what you have learned in the documentary film, what is the
presented principle of modernity and its values in the magician's twin?
 As I've dive deeper into my understanding of the documentary film that I've
seen, I've come to the conclusion that science is more hazardous than magic.
Science will not be able to manage people or the environment if it does not
function. Science also demonstrates that no matter what they develop, human
understanding cannot be replaced, and they cannot entirely control them.
Modern science, on the other hand, now has the potential to manipulate
individuals and alter their views. They also came to the conclusion that if
someone does not understand science as an innovation, they would be in
danger in the near future because science is always changing and
contemporary science can support people.

4. How does scientism threaten the human person thriving in science and
technology? Why does science adhere to a moral basis that is not dictated
by science itself?
 Science is a real danger because it impacts how people live in the real world.
If people use good knowledge, they may persuade others to come in,
influence their views, and even dominate others. Many individuals are drawn
to science these days because they may place their whole confidence in it
when it works.
