I am eagerly writing to apply for the Pediatric RN Residency Program with Johns Hopkins All
Children’s Hospital. Throughout my experience as a patient care technician (PCT) floating to
different pediatric and adult floors, my love for pediatrics has grown exponentially. Additionally,
my clinical experience while pursuing my BSN further underscored my passion for pediatrics. Johns
Hopkins All Children’s Hospital has a reputation for high quality and family-centered care and
would be an incredible place to start my career as a nurse.
In my clinical experience, I have honed my assessment skills, care coordination, and a multitude of
nursing skills while learning on a variety of different units. This paired with my experience floating
as a PCT has taught me resilience, flexibility, and how to work on a healthcare team. Furthermore,
these experiences have equipped me with a solid foundation of nursing skills that I am eager to
build on.
The magnet status of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital as well as its ranking as the number one
Children’s Hospital in Florida highlights the prestigious nature of this institution. This paired with
the accreditation of the nurse residency program demonstrates a commitment to excellence and
education that I want to be a part of. Additionally, the core values of integrity, leadership, diversity,
inclusion, and respect are values that closely align with my own.
A career in nursing has been a calling of mine for as long as I can remember. To me, nursing is the
intersection of medicine and whole people. This means that as a nurse we get to practice both the
physical skills that treat and manage illness and the emotional and interpersonal skills that are
required in family-centered care. I have wanted to become a pediatric nurse because it combines
the nursing that I love with the added layer of supporting children and families during especially
vulnerable times. Through my clinical experience in pediatrics and previous experience working
with children, I am familiar with the creativity, joy, and fun that goes into caring for and supporting
children. Therefore, I believe pediatrics is the best fit for me.
I am excited about this opportunity, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Emery Horvath
Letter of Recommendation
I highly recommend Emery Horvath for the Pediatric RN Residency Program at Johns Hopkins All
Children’s Hospital. I have had the pleasure of being Emery’s clinical instructor for the past three
semesters at the University of South Florida. She is one of my top performing students and excels in
clinical skills and critical thinking skills. During clinicals, Emery has rotated in the pediatric
emergency department, labor and delivery and postpartum units. Under my clinicals, Emery has
rotated in the cardiac telemetry units for two semesters and is currently on a renal/urology medical
surgical unit for her preceptorship.
Emery possesses excellent communication skills and teamwork. Her patients have complimented
Emery on her compassion, clinical knowledge, and clinical skills. Emery was also recognized by staff
nurses on the cardiac telemetry units as a hard worker, intelligent individual and team player.
Emery can put together a strong clinical picture of her patients and plan out care accordingly. Her
experience as a pediatric float nurse technician at Advent Health Tampa will be an additional
benefit your pediatric residency RN program. Emery has strong time management skills and
prioritization skills for the care of patients.
Emery shows a commitment to the community she resides in. She is a secretary for USF College of
Nursing Student Council as well as having worked as a USF Orientation Leader for the Tampa
campus and tutored individuals in the pre-nursing living-learning community. Her dedication to
serving others outside of nursing shows her strong service standards.
Emery is a compassionate and intelligent individual. Emery is a top performer in the USF CON
program and has excelled both academically and clinically. She is a motivated individual and will
exceed in your pediatric residency program at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She is driven
to succeed and plans on continuing her education as a nurse practitioner for the future. A natural
leader, Emery will rise to the academic rigor and clinical challenges of your residency program.
Emery will be a valuable addition to the Johns Hopkins team, and I believe Emery will continue to
grow and excel as a truly phenomenal pediatric nurse. She possesses the values that Johns Hopkins
embodies: integrity, leadership, diversity and inclusion, respect and collegiality.
Sincerely,
Lanette Dumas
