Lesson 3 – Learning Slide Basics

A slide contains everything that we want our audience to see.

Each slide can contain a combination of text, pictures, shapes, videos,
and charts. In a PowerPoint Presentation, we can have one to as many
slides as we want.

Slide Insertion
To insert more slides, we:
1. Click Home tab.
2. Select the New Slide command.
3. A drop-down menu will appear. It will show the different
slide layouts that we can choose. For now, choose Title and
Content.
4. We have inserted a new slide. Notice that we now have
two (2) slides in our Slide Navigation pane. We are currently on
the second slide.

Basic Parts of a Slide

Let us take a look at our inserted slide.

Notice the two (2) big rectangles. These are called

placeholders. Placeholders let us insert different things like
text, tables, pictures, videos, and charts.

Text is the most common element that we can already insert in

any placeholder. If a placeholder contains the icons, then that
placeholder can also insert other elements.

Lesson 4 – Inserting Text

Inserting any element into a PowerPoint Presentation is very easy.

For this lesson, we are going to work on inserting text into our slide.
The only thing that we need to remember about inserting text is to
click inside the placeholder.
Let us try it by doing these steps:
1. Open a new PowerPoint Presentation.
2. Go to our first slide.
3. Click anywhere inside the first placeholder to add a title to our
slide.
4. Type the text in the first placeholder.

Now, let us add a subtitle. To do this, we:

1. Click inside the second placeholder and type the text as seen
below.
2. Use your own name.
3. Save this PowerPoint Presentation as About Me in the
Documents folder.

Text Insertion

We can insert text in another area in the slide by using the Text
Box command. To insert a text box, we:
1. Go to the Ribbon, and click the Insert tab.
2. Find this icon. This is the Text Box command. Click it.
3. Click and hold, then drag to draw the text box.
4. An insertion point will appear inside the text box. We can now
type text inside the text box.

Text Box Adjustment

To resize a text box, click it so that sizing handles will appear.

We can use any of these handles to resize our text box.
Put the mouse pointer over a sizing handle at the bottom right
corner. The mouse pointer will change to Click it and hold. Then, drag
the sizing handle and move upward.
