CONTENT SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION ...........................................................................................................................
FIELD DETAILS:...............................................................................................................................
INTRODUCTION
The Pile Dynamic Analysis (PDA) was carried out at the Ras Al Ard project site (See Annex
A) in accordance with ASTM D4945-12: Standard Test Method for High-Strain Dynamic
Testing for Deep Foundations.
PDA was performed on vertical steel H-pile with size H-400x200x13x21 on February 20,
2022, in particular, three (3) days after the end of the test pile driving.
FIELD DETAILS
Monitored Pile
For the PDA test, test load for the working pile equal to 2.0 times the maximum
designed load has been considered as per project design.
Soil Information
Soil boring details indicate that the profile of the soil where pile is installed is primarily
silty sand. Thus, a corresponding damping factor (Jc) for such soil profile should be
used for doing the dynamic testing. We used 0.5 as our damping factor (Jc) during the
test.
Hammer System
The approach taken during PDA test was to employ a controlled energy deemed suited
to deliver an energy transfer to the pile head to mobilize the pile sufficiently for
measurement of its load capacity using the Pile Driving Analyzer.
The hammer used in the PDA test is a double-action hydraulic hammer with a model
number IHC SC-150.
After the aforementioned impact test, the actual PDAs were carried out. The test will be
terminated upon successful demonstration that the mobilized pile resistance equals or
exceeds the required test load or the pile settles by at least 3 mm per blow indicating that
full capacity has been mobilized.
Quantities DESCRIPTION
Le (m) Pile Length below gauges to the pile bottom, sensors are installed
Inc.

60-79% - Damaged
<60% - Broken
The computation is carried out by software employing the CASE Method for Dynamic
Analysis. It is based on an analysis of dynamic forces and accelerations (velocity) measured
while the pile is driven or impacted. Useful output information that can be displayed for
each impact includes,
If the output from the series of impacts indicates that the required resistance has not been
mobilized, a check will be carried out to identify the causes. If it is determined insufficient
energy have imparted to the pile, the hammer energy will be increased to enable a higher
energy transfer to the pile. If the output from the several impacts even after increasing the
hammer energy indicates that mobilized pile resistance is insufficient, the test will be
terminated and the data is to be checked to establish the cause for the low pile resistance.
A check on the integrity of the pile will be conducted. This is carried out both by noting
the pile damage analysis output from the software as well as studying the trend of the
force-velocity wave trace.
The data for each impact will be stored on the hard disk of the PDA.

CAPWAP ANALYSIS
CAPWAP, Case Pile Wave Analysis Program, is an iterative tool mainly used for capacity
determination. CAPWAP combines measured force and velocity data with wave equation
analysis to calculate the soil resistance force acting on the pile. After the data had been obtained
in the field by PDA, this software program tries to match the measured force and/or velocity
by numerically modelling the soil and pile system to find a reasonable solution.

8 19.2 83.6
9 21.2 194.7
10 23.2 56.2
The CAPWAP analysis performed on pile indicates that the activated total capacity of the pile
is 2,786.5 KN.
LIMITATIONS
Please note the limitations of the analysis; it is particularly noteworthy that dynamic testing
assesses the pile capacity at the time of testing. Therefore, results obtained at the end of testing
cannot always be used as an indication of the long-term bearing capacity of a pile. Also, please
note, the mobilized capacities reported maybe a lower bound estimate and that the ultimate
capacity at the end of testing may be significantly greater.
