2. EXECUTION

2.1 SURFACE PREPARATION (BY OTHERS):

For the application of the HDPE membrane system with thermal jointing,
the substrate needs to have an appropriate concrete surface profile and
sufficient stability to avoid movement during the installation and
subsequent construction works, including concreting. The requirements
for substrates and their preparation include the following:

 A smooth, even, uniform and clean substrate surface with at least

CSP 4 is mandatory to ensure a complete thermal jointing of the
overlap.
 The substrate has to be free from oil and grease, dust and any
other loose particles.
 Any gaps and voids must be filled before the installation.

2.2 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

2.2.1 Separation Layer:

Install a separation layer of non-woven geotextile “Geomatt NPS” 140gr/sqm, loose laid over
the concrete blinding on horizontal surface, to avoid mechanical abrasion between concrete
substrate and waterproofing membrane.

Single sided shutter vertical walls, apply geotextile 300 gr/sqm as separation.

2.2.2 Waterproofing Membrane: One - layer System:

Install One Layer of “Fosroc Membrane HDPE – P (Smooth) RF” Pre-Applied HDPE Waterproofing
Membrane over separation layer . It is a cold and pre-applied waterproofing system that is
installed as loosely laid, single-ply membranes onto prepared substrates before the steel
reinforcements is fixed and the concrete is poured.

 Use HDPE – P Smooth RF membrane sheets for the perimeter edges and connections on the
walls and upstands.

 Form internal and external corners by folding the laid out HDPE P membrane used for the
perimeter edges.

Ref. No.: TECH-TS-UG-21554-02011 Page | 7 of 9

 Lay out the HDPE P membrane sheets in the area (horizontal or vertical) .

 After the reinforcement is fixed and before the concrete is poured a final inspection is
recommended to check if there is any damage or other influences that could impair the full-
surface bond formation of the HDPE - P system to the structural concrete.

Roll-ends or cut edges shall be sealed HDPE-P sealed tape. Unroll the membrane and cut 100mm of
release film off the end of the membrane roll Unroll the HDPE-P Sealed Tape onto the membrane and
use roller to press firm to maximise adhesion. Remove the HDPE-P Sealed Tape release film and unroll
the next roll of membrane onto the HDPE-P Sealed Tape.

For isolated footing, HDPE membrane will continue vertically to top of footing

2.2.3 Pipe dressing (if any)

Penetrations through the membrane i.e. pipe entries, shall be made watertight using Fosroc
Membrane HDPE-P (Smooth) RF with the accessories and tape.

2.2.4 Vertical Post Applied Application (If double sided shutter):

 Surface Preparation:

1. Remove any weak concrete, high spots/protrusions, cement laitance, existing coatings etc., to
achieve a fine-gripping profile that is clean, dry and free from dirt, grease, oil and any other
form of surface contamination.
2. All substrate surface defects must be repaired using appropriate repair products
3. Corners and edges must be cut or formed / chamfered / smoothened:
4. All concrete surfaces should be shutter finish and free from any type of laitance, dust, dirt,
cavities, projecting nibs or shuttering dowels etc.
5. Make sure that the surface is smooth and doesn’t have any sharp protrusions. Any honey-comb,
or surface defects should be repaired using structural grade Fosroc repair mortar.
6. The concrete should have cured properly; moisture content on the surface will not allow the
membrane to bond properly. The surface must be dry free from contamination, ice and frost.
Moisture content in the concrete shall be less than 5%.

7. Priming is generally not required; however, where there is a need, Nitobond AR could be used.
Consult Fosroc local team for more details.

 Membrane Installation:

1. Once surface of the concrete is ready for the membrane application, membrane applied by
removing the release film from the HDPE-S and applied gradually on the substrate while
pressing firmly to ensure intactness. Hot-air welding at the overlaps can be used whenever
needed.

2. Adjacent rolls should be applied with an overlap of 75mm. The membrane should be firmly
applied to the substrate rolling with the metal roller with ample amount of pressure, ensuring
proper bonding with the substrate.

3. Roll-end and cut edges should be overlapped at a distance of 100mm using HDPE sealed.
Ensure that all overlap areas are clean free from contamination, moisture and dust, and then
pressing firmly using a roller to ensure intactness.

4. The underside of the lapping succeeding sheet is clean, dry and free from contamination
before attempting to overlap. Roll firmly to ensure a watertight seal.

5. Whenever needed, the membrane can be supported mechanically on the overlap sides, in
which case the overlap shall be made not less than 100mm, and the mechanical fixing shall
be in the middle. The mechanical fixing shall then be covered and overlapped with the
subsequent membrane.

 Connections:

Fosroc Membrane HDPE-S self-adhesive membrane is post-applied in conjunction with Fosroc

Membrane HDPE-P Smooth RF, by overlapping the back of the latter with an overlap of at least
200mm.

The surface of the pre-applied membrane back must be dry, clean and free from any dirt and
contaminants before applying the overlap.

 Corners and Edges:

1. All corners must be chamfered, and an angle fillet must be applied to fill in angles.

2. A reinforcing strip of HDPE sealed tape shall be applied on the corners, and then Fosroc
Membrane HDPE-S shall be applied.

3. Alternatively, HDPE-S membrane shall be terminated at the edges and a strip of Proofex 3000
or Proofex 3000MR self-adhesive membrane shall be used to connect the HDPE-S together, by
maintaining an overlap of 200mm at each side of the angle.

4. Intricate details can be dressed using Proofex 3000 or Proofex 3000MR self-adhesive
membranes.
