Teaching Traditional Games


Topics: Characteristics of Traditional Games, Role and Types of Traditional Games and Distinctions of
Traditional Games to Modern Games
Intended Learning Outcomes: At the end of the module, the student must have:
1. identified characteristics of traditional games based on the checklist provided through checking
the statement;
2. distinguished roles of traditional games through statement/situation agreement;
3. recognized the types of traditional games through outcome analysis;
4. posted in the FB group page the created 3-5 minutes Vlog on facilitating preferred type of
traditional games; and
5. completed the table presenting the distinctions of the characteristics between traditional games
and modern games.
INTRODUCTION
Traditional games are those games w/in the society that people have played for many years,
because participation gives them a chance to practice something that has meaning within their society.
Traditional games are form of play which includes participants, some sort of challenge or goal and rules
although they are not as formal or organized as sport. Many of the traditional games are linked with
work, religion, celebration, family life, birth, coming of age and death. They are central to cultural
experience of people.
ACTIVITY
A. Instruction: Provided with the statement check the column which you think talks about the
characteristics of traditional games by checking the remarks column.

ABSTRACTION

As a game is structured as playing, undertaken for enjoyment and educational purposes it is characterized
by rules challenge and interaction. With respect this structured role play of game, the characteristics of
traditional games were introduced including the major roles of participation.

The types of traditional games were as follows: games of physical skills, games of strategy, games of
chance, games of memory, rhythm games, simulation games and verbal games.

Based on the structure and functions of traditional game and modern sports one recognizes a variation.
The differences of traditional games and modern games can be described in terms of game characteristics.

APPLICATION:

Instruction: Make a 3-5 minutes Vlog regarding the facilitating of the preferred type of traditional games
among children as participants. Post your output on the FB group page that will be created and provided to
you in our GC. The rubrics will be forwarded in the GC as basis for rating your output.

EVALUATION:

Instruction: Provided with the lists of characteristics, kindly fill-in the column for traditional games and modern
games/sports regarding their distinctions. Used ideas presented in Activity and Analysis in answering this part
and the first row serve as example on how to indicate answer in the respective columns.
