CHAPTER 5

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

In this chapter, the findings from the collected data and the

recommendation for improving the study are presented.

SUMMARY OF RESEARCH FINDINGS

The main objectives of this experiment study; to examine the weldability

and the strength of the different parameter of the specimen.

1. Obtaining the specification of the specimen.

a. Length of the steel bar – 20 mm

b. Thickness – 10 mm

2. The maximum time consumed to determine the strength of the steel bar

took 5 - 7 mins.

3. We performed 5 corrugated steel bars to compare the highest possible

strength of breaking.

4. In the charts given, Researched inputted 2 charts of Loads, the minimum

and the maximum by reason of the given data’s of UTM for the corrugated

steel bars.

5. Based on the last tests we run, researchers found out that the Lap Joint 2

has the highest strength performance.

CONCLUSION

Based on the results obtained on the experiment, the following

conclusions are drawn:

1. Therefore, the researchers concluded that out of 5 specimens that they

tested; lap joint 2 is more efficient

2. Based on the result, having a longest time range on time of fracture tend

that the specimen isn’t easily to break which is the Lap Joint 2 – recorded

561 seconds (9 mins and 35 secs).

3. Researchers concluded that the strength of the welded steel bar depends

on the thickness or the way it was welded.

4. The specimen that has a large strength needed to break, is the Lap Joint

2 having 23.8 kN and the Butt Joint has the lowest strength among the 5

specimens having only a recorded strength of 12.5 kN.

5. There is correlation between the welding current and mechanical

properties of weld metal.

6. Researchers concluded that E6013 can be used in a 10 mm diameter of

steel bar; it provides good wetting and shallow penetration.

32
RECOMMENDATION

Based on the study’s findings, the following recommendations can be

made:

1. In different welding style, it is recommended that there should be three

samples of welded steel bars to be tested in the UTM, this includes the

Butt Joint, One Lap Joint and the Tee Joint to know what style of welding

can take a longer time to break.

2. There should only be one person to conduct the welding of steel bars, so

that the welding are/is the same and to know the result based on the

specimen.

3. There should be two samples for each joint, Sample 1 (Polish) and the

Sample 2 (Weld defects) – Steel Bar 10mm.

4. It is recommended that the future experiment must be a full weld

specimen.

5. MIG, TIG, FCA, EB, AH, and PA Welding are the welding process

recommended to use for future experiment.

6. It is recommended to use different kinds of rods as a sample for a welding

steel bar such as E6011, E7018 etc.
