Unit VI Laplace Transforms

The document defines the Laplace transform and provides proofs of the Laplace transforms of several standard functions. It demonstrates how to use properties of the Laplace transform, such as shifting and linearity, to find the transforms of more complex functions. Examples are provided to illustrate applying the definition and standard results to calculate Laplace transforms.

Laplace Transforms

Definition:- If f(t) is a real valued function for all , then the laplace transform of f(t),
denoted by L{f(t)} and is defined as

* ( )+ ∫ () ( )

Where ‘s’ is parameter, real or complex.

Note: * () ( )+ * ( )+ * ( )+ where ‘a’ and ‘b’ are constants.

Laplace transform of standard functions:-

Properties of Laplace transforms:

Property 1: If L{f(t)}= f(s) then L{ ( )+ ( ) , ( )-

Proof: By definition

( ) ∫ ( )

,f(s)] = ∫ ( ) f(t) dt

,f(s)] = -∫ f(t) dt

(-1) ,f(s)] = L{t f(t)}
