The philosophy of self is the study of many conditions of identity that make one

subject of experience distinct from other acquaintances. Philosophers agree that self-
knowledge is a prerequisite to a happy and meaningful life; that makes us understand
how important it is to know oneself. The different concepts of self from various
philosophers are creating an impact on our self-understanding. The self sometimes is
referred to as the soul, ego, psyche, identity, I, me, or being. I believe that concepts
about self serve as a guide for us to create our perspective of how we see ourselves
and who we'll become. Although philosophers have their various perspectives, it's still
considered the same thing; the self.

I, myself, had encountered the difficulty of understanding what I had become when I
was still in first-year high school. It is indeed troublesome having that in mind, given
that I'm only about to start my journey to adolescence. But thanks to my teachers who
had taught us very carefully on their subjects relating to self-understanding, that
makes me understand more of myself. Knowing the concept of Sigmund Freud directs
me to have a clear view of myself. According to Freud, the self consists of three
layers: conscious, unconscious, and preconscious. Much of the self is determined by
the unconscious. He illustrated his concept using an iceberg, describing that the
conscious level, the upper part of an iceberg that we can see, is where our thoughts
and perceptions are, while preconscious is between the conscious level and
unconscious level.

Mistakes are proof that you are trying. Knowing my weaknesses is an advantage
because self-awareness is a tool to overcome my do's and don'ts in life. Overcoming
my weaknesses makes me strong in all circumstances and problems that I encounter
in my daily life. I believe that knowing oneself is to know one's disadvantages for
future learnings.

Having the philosophy of oneself is necessary for planning for the future. It is a great
help for us to know more about our thoughts, ideas, values, and personality. To fully
understand oneself is essential for a lot of things, such as making friends and
understanding how to communicate best.
