Learning Outcomes
Client’s peripheral requirements are identified and are confirmed in accordance with
organisation standards.
· Client requirements and peripherals needed in line with organisation guidelines are
documented and are reported to the supervisor.
· Client requirements are cleared with supervisor in line with organisation guidelines.
· Client support expectations are covered by vendor’s warranty and support services.
· Existing peripherals are disconnected and replaced, with minimal disruption to clients.
· New peripherals are connected with minimum disruption.
· Computer is configured to accept new peripherals.
· Hardware peripherals are tested and client satisfaction is confirmed. Amendments are
made as required for client.
Details of Learning Activities
1. Face to Face teaching: to obtain introduction to the fundamentals of computer hardware and
different operating system. As well dealing with safety and environmental issues communication
skills with customers.
2. Personal Reading: student will have access to online Cisco material which student can read, as
well as quizzes at the end of each module.
3. Practice sheets: Students will have worksheet to enforce what they have read online.
4. Skill test: This will give the opportunity for student what they have done in laboratory to put
into practically skill test and fault finding problems with computer hardware and software issues.
5. Test. A series of online module test that student has learnt during the course of the semester
and a final exam that covers all modules test which area online.
6. Simulator and lab sessions. A few simulators on how to put a computer together and as well a
laptop simulator, which shows student the differences between a PC and laptop computer
construction.
Teaching Schedule
Week 1: Introduction to the Personal computer: In this module student will be able to identify
name of internal and external components of a computer, name different ports and cables, and
power supply.
Week 2: Safe lab Procedure and tool use and Computer assembly
In this two module will be looking at OH&S issue regarding working with personal computer
using the right tools for the right job. As well how to assembly a computer from it individual
components.
Week 4: Windows operating system. In this section will be looking at basic fundamentals the
purpose of an operating system. Look at the purpose, limitation and compatibilities and customer
needs.
Week 5 :Fundamentals of Laptops and Portable devices. This section looks at describing laptops
and portable devices. Identity components of a laptop, to configure a laptop, identity common
preventive maintenance for laptops and portable devices.
Week 6 : Fundamentals of Printers and scanners. In this section we look at different types of
printers available, how laser printer works. How to install and configure scanners and provide
common preventive maintenance techniques for printers and scanners.
Week 7 :Fundamentals of Networking. In this section look the principles of networking, explain
the different types of networks, different types of LAN topologies and architectures. What are
the Ethernet standards, the OSI model and TCP/IP. Basic troubleshooting a basic network.
Week 8: Fundamental Security. Look at the important of security and security threats, identify
security procedures and troubleshooting security.
Week 9: Communication skills. Look at the how to deal with customers and how to act
professional with customers.
Week 10: Advanced Personal computers. Looks at how determine if a component on a computer
should be upgraded or replaced. As well look at the adequate system resources to efficiently run
the customer’s hardware and software.
Week 12 Advance Laptops and Portable devices and Advance Printers and scanners
Look at the different methods of wireless communication for laptops and portable devices, select
laptop components and troubleshoot a laptop.
