This type of questions is called sentence completion and may look like this on the question paper:
Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS from the passage for each answer.
1 Einstein explained the phenomenon of particles' strange motion by the fact that they were
collapsing with ...........................
2 Atoms were confirmed existing by observations supported by ........................... in 1908.
3 .......................... are parts that are circling around the nucleus.

Question 1: …………………………………………………………………….……………..
Question 2: ……………………………………………………………………….…………..
Question 3: ……………………………………………………………………….…………..
"#TIPS:
- Underline keywords of only 2 questions at the same time, not all questions because it will
cause confusion and overloaded information taken in. So, underline and answer two
questions first, then move to the next 2 questions
- Underline word limit and bear in my how many words maximum you are allowed to write.
Answer

question 2
" TIPS:
- Questions follow the order of the text. Answer for question 4 will be between answer for
question 3 and 5.
- Scanning: read quickly to find specific facts and/or locate an answer area to save time.
Avoid reading for nonsense or no purposes.
Question 1:
In the first question, key words are: Einstein, explained, strange motion, and collapsing. Our
answer is probably in the 1st and 2nd paragraphs:
Einstein’s theory was that the particles from the pollen grains were being moved around because
they were constantly crashing into millions of tinier molecules of water – molecules that were
made of atoms.
Crashing into = collapsing with. But our word limit is maximum 3 words. So your answer should
be noun Molecules of water.
Question 2:
Locate your answer area by the given year– 1908, in 2nd paragraph after answer area of 1st question.
By 1908, observations backed with thorough calculations had confirmed that atoms were real.
Question 3:
“Nucleus” was introduced only in the last paragraph, so we should search for the answer there.
" TIPS:
- Make sure that your answer does not exceed the word limit.
- Make sure that your answer fits into the sentence grammatically.
- When scanning, look for synonyms or words with similar meaning with text will be much
easier.
- Use specific or dis-paraphrased nouns like year, specific names …
Congenital heart experts from Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital have
successfully integrated two common imaging techniques to produce a three-dimensional anatomic
model of a patient's heart.
The 3D model printing of patients' hearts has become more common in recent years as part of an
emerging, experimental field devoted to enhanced visualization of individual cardiac structures
and characteristics. But this is the first time the integration of computed tomography (CT) and
three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (3DTEE) has successfully been used for
printing a hybrid 3D model of a patient's heart. A proof-of-concept study authored by the
Spectrum Health experts also opens the way for these techniques to be used in combination with
a third tool - magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
"Hybrid 3D printing integrates the best aspects of two or more imaging modalities, which can
potentially enhance diagnosis, as well as interventional and surgical planning," said Jordan
Gosnell, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital cardiac sonographer, and lead author of the study.
"Previous methods of 3D printing utilize only one imaging modality, which may not be as accurate
as merging two or more datasets."
The team used specialized software to register images from the two imaging modalities to
selectively integrate datasets to produce an accurate anatomic model of the heart. The result
creates more detailed and anatomically accurate 3D renderings and printed models, which may
enable physicians to better diagnose and treat heart disease.
2. Spectrum Health scientists have found a way to combine and use three techniques:
computed tomography, three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography and

3. The new method of 3D printing is more efficient than previous methods because it merges
two and more ………………………………………….. .
Worms
About a quarter of the world's population could have worms living in their guts. For many years
experts have recommended treating large groups at risk of infection - but is this mass approach
worthwhile?
Evidence showing the benefits of large-scale deworming projects has come under scrutiny in
recent weeks - the debate has even been dubbed "worm wars". Parasites, such as roundworm,
hookworm and whipworm could be living inside more than 1.5 billion people according to the
World Health Organization (WHO).
"People are usually infected through contaminated food but hookworm larvae can also burrow
into feet, get into blood vessels and make their way to the heart and lungs. From there they can
climb up to the oesophagus* and be swallowed, ending up in the gut where they grow.
Worms are not usually fatal but in serious cases they can cause abdominal pain, diarrhoea, loss of
appetite, weight loss, fatigue and anaemia. In children, they can also contribute to malnutrition,
stunted growth, and absences from school.
*oesophagus - throat
3. Hookworm larvae might make his way to the ……………………………… and then be
swallowed.
A giant panda at a zoo in the United States has given birth to twin cubs.
Keepers at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington DC only discovered Mei Xiang was
pregnant during an ultrasound scan last week. The zoo said both cubs appeared healthy. Giant
pandas are one of the most endangered species in the world and are notoriously hard to breed in
captivity.
The National Zoo is one of only four zoos in the US to have pandas, which are on loan from
China. Mei Xiang, who has two other offspring, is one of the zoo's star attractions and a Panda
Cam on her enclosure crashed within seconds of the birth of the first cub being announced
because of the volume of interest.
Female pandas are able to conceive for only two or three days a year, leading to a very low
reproduction rate. Mei Xiang was artificially inseminated with sperm from the zoo's resident
male Tian Tian and a panda named Hui Hui from Wolong, China. It will not be known for a
while which is the father, or what sex the cubs are.
It has previously taken months before Mei Xiang's cubs have been introduced to the public. AP
news agency reports that her first cub, Tai Shan, was born in 2005 and returned to China in
2010; her second cub, Bao Bao, is two years old on Sunday and still lives at the zoo. The panda
population is threatened by habitat loss as land is increasingly inhabited by humans, with about
1,800 pandas left in the wild in China. However, the number living in the wild in China has gone
up over the last 10 years.
2. Pandas from the USA National Zoo are ……………………………………… from China.
It’s easy to miss this subtle groove, covered in pine straw and vines, worn in the ground of eastern
Tennessee. In the summer of 1838, about 13,000 Cherokee walked this path from their homes in
the Appalachian Mountains to a new, government-mandated homeland in Oklahoma. They
traveled over land and water and were held in military camps along the way. Unlike other settlers
heading west, who saw in America’s open expanses the hope of a new life, the Cherokee traveled
with a military escort. They left behind highly coveted land that was, even as they walked, being
divided up among white land speculators.
The Trail of Tears was a journey of some 900 miles that took approximately nine months to
complete. After they were rounded up from their villages and homes, the Cherokee were assembled
in large internment camps, where some waited for weeks before heading out in waves of
approximately 1,000, following different paths, depending on the season.
As many as 4,000 died along the way from dehydration, tuberculosis, whooping cough, and other
hardships— by some accounts, a dozen or more were buried at each stop. Some escaped along the
way and were caught and returned to the march like criminals. Still others refused to leave, hiding
out in the mountains, joining others on small farms where, stripped of tribal connections and
burdened with unclear legal status, they faced an uncertain future.
Despite all our historical knowledge of the forced removal, there has been little study of the
archaeology of the trail, the internment camps along the way, and the farms that sheltered those
who stayed behind. The military forts that held the Cherokee in crowded, unsanitary conditions
have been largely consumed by development or otherwise lost. The homesteads back East, where
resistors lived under constant threat of arrest, went undocumented. Buildings, roads, farms, and
floods have claimed almost all of these sites. In addition to a lack of material evidence, there has
long been an uneasy, even contentious, relationship between Native Americans and archaeologists.
That now stands to change. In eastern Tennessee, archaeologists are excavating the site of Fort
Armistead, a U.S. Army encampment that served as a holding area and one of the first stops for
North Carolina Cherokee on their forced journey west.
Write ONLY ONE WORD from the passage for each answer.
1. Cherokee left the land that was being ……………… up among white land speculators.
2. Caught Cherokee were returned like ……………………………………………….. .
3. The relations between Native Americans and ………………………….. were uneasy.
4. The archaeologists are now ………… the site of Fort Armistead in eastern Tennessee.
A number of reasons contributed to Britain's decision to colonise Australia. The most important
factor was Britain's need to relieve its overcrowded prisons. Several violent incidents at
overcrowded prisons convinced the British government of the need to separate unruly elements
from the rest of the prison populace.
Additionally, Australia was of strategic importance to Britain, and it provided a base for the Royal
Navy in the eastern sea. Also, Australia could be used as an entry point to the economic
opportunities of the surrounding region. All these points figured in the decision by Lord Sydney,
secretary of state of home affairs, to authorise the colonisation.
To this affect, on May 13, 1787, Captain Arthur Phillip, commanding eleven ships full of convicts,
left Britain for Australia. He successfully landed a full fleet at Botany Bay on January 18, 1788.
However, they left the bay eight days later because of its openness and poor soil, and settled instead
at Port Jackson, a few kilometres north. The ships landed 1,373 people, including 732 convicts,
and the settlement became Sydney. Australia Day is now celebrated on 26 January each year, to
commemorate this first fleet landing.
3. It was thought that ……………………….. could be gained in that part of the world due to the
access provided via Australia
4. Lord Sydney took every factor into account when he gave official permission for the

While Devin Liddell, who heads brand strategy for Seattle-based design consultancy, Teague,
condemns the violence and other illegal activities he became curious as to how criminal groups
endure. Some cartels stay in business despite multiple efforts by law enforcement on both sides of
the US border and millions of dollars from international agencies to shut them down. Liddell
genuinely believes there’s a lesson in longevity here. One strategy he underlined was how the bad
guys respond to change. In order to bypass the border between Mexico and the US, for example,
the Sinaloa cartel went to great lengths. It built a vast underground tunnel, hired family members
as border agents and even used a catapult to circumvent a high-tech fence.
By contrast, many legitimate businesses fail because they hesitate to adapt quickly to changing
market winds. One high-profile example is movie and game rental company Blockbuster, which
didn’t keep up with the market and lost business to mail order video rentals and streaming
technologies. The brand has all but faded from view. Liddell argues the difference between the
two groups is that criminal organisations often have improvisation encoded into their daily
behaviour, while larger companies think of innovation as a set process. “This is a leadership
challenge,” said Liddell. “How well companies innovate and organise is a reflection of leadership.”
Clay gives a Saudi entrepreneur named Walid Abdul-Wahab as a prime example. Abdul-Wahab
worked with Amish farmers to bring camel milk to American consumers even before US regulators
approved it. Through perseverance, he eventually found a network of Amish camel milk farmers
and started selling the product via social media. Now his company, Desert Farms, sells to giant
mainstream retailers like Whole Foods Market. Those on the fringe don’t always have the option
of traditional, corporate jobs and that forces them to think more creatively about how to make a
living, Clay said. They must develop grit and resilience in order to last outside the cushy confines
of cubicle life. “In many cases scarcity is the mother of invention,” Clay said.

1 To escape from a prison, Joaquin Guzman had to use such traits as creative thinking, long-
term planning and ……………………………………… .
2 The Sinaloa cartel built a grand underground tunnel and even used a

Like any other electrical device, a pacemaker needs power. Since the first permanent pacemaker
was installed in 1958, manufacturers have tried many different ways of powering them. For
example, a variety of chemical batteries have been used. However, these need to be replaced
frequently, which requires operating on the patient.
Today, non-rechargeable lithium batteries are common. Used in many implants, they provide
between seven and ten years of life. That is more than enough: by the time the battery has run
down it is generally time to replace the whole device with a newer model.
But that has not discouraged researchers from trying to find a small, constant energy source that
does not require recharging. Now, several researchers are getting close to a solution using glucose,
a type of sugar that is the main energy source for all cells in the body.
Glucose is continuously delivered everywhere in the body. This means a sugar-powered device
would have a constant supply of fuel and could be put almost anywhere.
One approach, involves breaking down glucose in a living cell, naturally allowing electricity to be
generated from the glucose. Unfortunately, at present, only two of the 24 electrons in a glucose
molecule can be used, which is not yet enough to power a pacemaker.
1. Since they were invented, pacemakers have been powered by many types of
