To Whom it May Concern,

Laura Gahagan is an accomplished teacher candidate. I worked with Laura as her supervising instructor in her
professional semester of teacher preparation. The professional semester is taught as a competency based field
experience focused on the four Danielson Domains, 1) Planning and Preparation, 2) the Classroom Environment, 3)
Instruction and 4) Professional Responsibilities. Laura has spent significant time developing each of the
components of these domains. She has submitted written assignments for my evaluation, including classroom
observations, lesson plans with formative and summative assessments, strategies for employing highly effective
research-based pedagogical methods, and treatises on her educational beliefs and philosophies. Laura has
consistently demonstrated thoughtful and skilled performance.
Laura manifests knowledge of pedagogy and content. She shows strong skills in setting appropriate instructional
outcomes as well as strategies for developing challenging learning tasks for the children. Learning activities are
aligned with standards and curricular expectations in order to set high goals for student learning. Laura is developing
a variety of formative assessment practices in order to monitor student progress in a meaningful manner and inform
her day to day instruction.
Laura has made a commitment to asking rigorous questions that push the children to think at higher levels. The
instructional activities she has designed are engaging. She understands the importance of creating compelling
lessons that attract children to learn. She expresses extensive knowledge of ways to work flexibly with all of the
children including those with learning needs, making accommodations and using a variety of strategies.
Laura has a calm and cheerful personality which assists in creating an effective learning environment. She presents
an encouraging and affirming attitude and is developing many classroom management strategies. Laura is organized
and well-prepared, and demonstrates knowledge of technology that can be employed to the benefit of the learning
environment. Laura understands the importance of creating a classroom culture where children are comfortable,
allowed to move around, and can access their own learning materials as appropriate. Her genuine care and respect
for children is evident in her responses to the assignments as well as the reports from her mentor teacher and
previous supervisor.

Laura is a reflective educator, assessing the effectiveness of her instruction and learning to revise and adapt as
needed. I have found her to be open to my suggestions as well as those from her mentors and peers. Laura
exemplifies high standards of behavior, respects confidentiality, and is committed to continuing her growth as an
educator.

It is without reservation that I recommend Laura Gahagan for for any teaching position for which she is qualified.

Sincerely,

Deborah Fink Sailsbery
