Differential Equations HW1

This document contains a homework assignment on differential equations. It includes problems to identify whether differential equations are linear or non-linear, ordinary or partial, and to determine the order, dependent and independent variables. Additional problems involve verifying functions as solutions to differential equations over specified intervals and solving a differential equation to obtain the general and particular solutions.

II. Verify that the given function or functions is a solution of the given d.e on the specified
interval/intervals.
Note on interval:
● Interval (9, ∞) is an open interval. Meaning, variable 𝑥 can have any value from 9 and ∞ but
not including 9 and ∞. Other way to say it is that it includes all the numbers in the positive 𝑥
axis that are greater than 9.
● Interval [0, 8) means 𝑥 can have values equal to 0 and greater than 0 but less than 8.
● Interval [-2,2] means 𝑥 can be equal to − 2, 2, and numbers in between.

2 '' 2 1
1. 𝑥 𝑦 − 2𝑦 = 0; 𝑦(𝑥) = 𝑥 − 𝑥
on intervals (− ∞, 0) and (0, ∞)

Solution:
The given functions is a solution of the given D.E
