Reflection Paper:
Write a one-page reflection paper on how can the Electrical Engineering program contributes
to the BPSU Vision and Mission.
University Mission
To develop competitive graduates and empowered community members by providing relevant,
innovative and transformative knowledge, research, extension and production programs and services
through progressive enhancement of its human resource capabilities and institutional mechanisms.
University Vision
A leading university in the Philippines recognized for its proactive contribution to Sustainable
Development through equitable and inclusive programs and services by 2030.
Electrical Engineering
Electrical engineering is an engineering field focused on electricity and electronics, from
microscopic computer components to large power networks. Students who graduate with an electrical
engineering majors will have job opportunities in wide-ranging fields, from telecommunications to the
computer industry to the automotive industry.
Electrical engineering specifically deals with electricity, electro-magnetism and electronics. It also covers
power, control systems, telecommunications, and signal processing.
An electrical engineer applies the physics and mathematics of electricity, electromagnetism, and
electronics to design and develop new electrical equipment and systems, to solve problems, and to test
equipment.

Electrical engineers can work on various projects, from designing household appliances to designing
large-scale electrical telecommunication systems, electrical power stations, and satellite communications
systems.
Electrical engineers work on a variety of projects, such as computers, robots, cell phones, cards, radars,
navigation systems, wiring and lighting in buildings and other kinds of electrical systems.
More and more, electrical engineers are relying on computer-aided design (CAD) systems for the creation
of schematics and to lay out circuits, and they use computers to simulate how electrical devices and
systems will function.
Electrical engineers work in various industries and the skills required also vary. These skills can range
from basic circuit theory to those required to be a project manager. The tools and equipment that an
electrical engineer may need are also variable, and can range from a straightforward voltmeter to a top
end analyzer to advanced design and manufacturing software.
There are many sub-disciplines of electrical engineering. Some electrical engineers specialize exclusively
in one sub-discipline, while others specialize in a combination of sub-disciplines.
1. Electronic Engineer
2. Microelectronics Engineer
3. Signal Processing Engineer
4. Power Engineer
5. Control Engineer
6. Telecommunications Engineer

7. Instrumentation Engineer
8. Computer Engineer
Electrical engineers can be found working in a variety of industries, such as engineering services,
manufacturing, telecommunications, research and development, and the federal government. A typical
work week is 40 hours, although there may be overtime involved to meet deadlines.
A large part of an electrical engineer's day involves project management, such as meeting with clients,
determining budgets, and preparing project schedules. Supervising the work of other professionals, such
as computer programmers, electricians, scientists, and other engineers, is also required at times.
Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is a four-year degree program that focuses on
conceptualizing, developing, and designing a safe, economical, and ethical utilization of electrical energy.
The program also trains students to effectively develop and test real-life applications of electrical
circuitry, digital systems, electrical equipment, and machinery control.
Students who want to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering are encouraged to take the Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand under the Academic Track. They will learn
topics relevant that to their degree that will be useful in their college life.
Engineering Management
Computer Fundamentals
Programming
Dynamics of Rigid Bodies
Electrical Circuits
Electrical System Design
Power Plant Engineering

Admission Requirements
Qualifications
However, if they were not able to graduate high school, they may opt to take the Alternative Learning
System (ALS) and pass the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) to qualify for college; the
availability of courses for PEPT passers depend on the university.
o The students must pass the College Admissions Test of the university.
Program Outcome
Solve complex engineering problems using the application of mathematics and science
knowledge
Conduct engineering procedures professionally and ethically
Know the ethical and professional responsibilities as an electrical engineer
Understand and explain the significance of engineering solutions globally, economically, and
environmentally
Use up to date techniques, skills, and engineering tools for electrical engineering procedures
Apply engineering and management principles both as a member and a leader in a team
On-The-Job Training/Internship
During the third or fourth year of the program, students are required to attend an On the Job Training
(OJT) in a company, organization, or agency that specializes in electrical engineering practices and
procedures.
Students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in an actual work setting. Usually,
universities require them to submit a written report on their tasks, learning experiences, and hours
rendered. Their work performance will also be evaluated by their immediate managers and will be
submitted to their respective OJT coordinator. The number of hours required may differ in each
university.
Board Exam
To become a Licensed Electrical Engineer in the Philippines, a graduate of Electrical Engineering needs to
pass the Electrical Engineering Licensure Examination. The examination is conducted by the Board of
Electrical Engineering under the supervision of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC). It is
scheduled twice a year in the months of April and October.
4
Career Opportunities
Graduates of Electrical Engineering may pursue a career path in various development and manufacturing
companies or government agencies that needs specialized Electrical Engineering services. They may
apply for roles such as technical support engineer, electrical installer, electrical field service engineer,
junior programmer, electrical engineer, computer systems engineer, electrical technician, and engineering
Technician.
