Subject: Analysis on Four Lead Cores of LRB

Dear Mr. Krisna Setiawan ,

First of all, thank you very much for your support to OVM.
Regarding the analysis of four lead cores of LRB, our technical analysts used ANSYS workbench to simulate
the stress of the LRB and the four lead cores under earthquake conditions. We simulated the analysis of
the bearing in the horizontal direction and the oblique angle of 45°. The results are as follows:
Material properties:
Analyze input
1) Lead core begins to yield analysis
Rubber, density 1×103 Kg/m3, Poisson's ratio 0.49, shear modulus 0.9MPa.

Rubber material property

Lead core, density 11×103 Kg/m3, Poisson's ratio of 0.4, shear modulus 130MPa.

Lead material property

The lead core yields at 10.5 MPa and does not change with the displacement of the bearing, as shown in

2) The bearing force analysis model is shown in the following figure:
Working condition 1: The lower connecting plate of the bearing is fixed, and the upper steel plate is
applied with a displacement of 170 mm in the Y direction (ie, horizontal direction).

Working condition model 1

Working condition model 1 - 4 lead cores displacement

Conclusion: It can be seen from the analysis that the displacement of the four lead cores is consistent. The
upper part of the lead core has the largest displacement (red part) and the lower part has the smallest
displacement (blue part), and the displacement model is consistent with the motion model of the bearing.

Working condition 2: The lower connecting plate of the bearing is fixed, and the upper steel plate applies a
displacement of 120 mm in the X and Y directions at the same time, that is, a displacement of 170 mm is
applied in the diagonal (45°) direction of the XY coordinate system.

Conclusion: It can be seen from the lead displacement diagram that the displacement of the four lead
cores is the same as that of the working condition 1. When the bearing is sheared in the 45° direction, the
four lead cores are simultaneously stressed and operated synchronously.

To sum up, it can be seen from the analysis of the above two working conditions that under the action of
the external horizontal force, the lead core supports the shear displacement in any direction, and the four
lead cores in the lead core bearing are synchronously displaced to consume energy. In the vulcanization
process of the lead core bearing, the lead core is not placed into the hole. In order to prevent the stiffened
steel plate from directly contacting the lead core, the reserved hole has a rubber protective layer, during
the shearing movement, the lead core is provided with a certain restoring force and protected from being
damaged by the stiffened steel plate.

Thank you and best regards,
