1. INTRODUCTION
The Flight Sim Labs A320-X features a Passenger Address System, integrated into the aircraft systems and it is possible to
not only hear the cabin crew address the passengers during different phases of flight, but also deliver your own address to the
cabin via the controls in the flight deck.
This document will explain how to configure the aircraft systems to hear the passenger address system, how each one is
triggered and also illustrate how they can be customized for different airlines.
2. CONFIGURATION
Cabin Intercommunication Data System (CIDS)
The A320-X is equipped with a cabin management system, referred to as the CIDS (Cabin Intercommunication Data System).
The system controls cabin functions for passengers and crews. This includes cabin lighting, cockpit/cabin announcements,
door status indications, emergency signals, non-smoking/fasten seatbelt signs, smoke detectors, cabin temperature controls
– and a number of other functions. In the real world, the primary interaction with the CIDS is by the cabin crew, via the FAP
(Flight Attendant Panel) located at the front of each cabin. However, for this simulation, most of the functions of the CIDS have
been automated – and the following chapters will explain how this automation is integrated with the aircraft systems.
The A320-X includes several preferences that can be customized for the CIDS, and these can be found within the MCDU
OPTIONS pages:
To access the panel state options, display the Captain’s MCDU. Press the ‘MCDU MENU’ key if the MCDU menu is
not displayed already.
The Audio Control Panels are located on the pedestal panel – either side of the thrust lever quadrant.
To hear any announcements made over the cabin PA, press the
PA dial (1) so that it becomes illuminated white – and then turn
the same dial to increase the volume. You can adjust the 7
speaker volume into the flight deck via the speaker volume
controls, situated on either side of the main front panel (3).
When the cabin crew call the flight deck, the CAB ATT light (7)
will flash and FWC buzzer sound for 1 second. Press the CAB
dial (6) and the transmit switch (7) to receive the call. Once
complete, press the RESET button (8) to reset the flashing ATT
(attention) on the CAB switch. The flashing will stop
automatically after 60 seconds.
3. INSTALLATION
AIRLINE CABIN PACKS
Flight Sim Labs provide a number of Cabin Packs that you can download from the Downloads area on the forum – and using
an automated install process, will place the relevant sound files into the correct directory.
Aircraft liveries should now utilise the ‘airline_icao_code’ parameter added to the fltsim.cfg file that is located in the aircraft
livery texture folder. For example, an Air Canada livery installed for CFM can be found here:
Within the livery texture directory, a new file containing the livery parameters is included – fltsim.cfg. This contains the following
parameters.
The Airline ICAO parameter, in this example ACA for Air Canada, is used to tell the simulation which Airline directory to try to
load the cabin announcements from first. The Airlines directory is illustrated below:
FSL is the default livery and must not be removed, renamed or copied. By default, if the airline in use does not exist, the
simulation will load the default cabin announcement sounds found in the FSL directory. Therefore, there is no need to copy
the FSL folder.
There are a number of airline safety briefings available to download within the Flight Sim Labs Forum Download area.
Follow these steps to install a custom safety briefing announcement manually if an installer isn’t provided:
❖ If no folder with the airline ICAO code exists, this needs to be created. For example, if the safety briefing was for United
Airlines, create a new folder named ‘UAL’
❖ Copy the safety briefing sound into this Cabin folder – and rename it to:
➢ FSL_A320X_CABIN_PA_SAFETY_BRIEFING.ogg
❖ No other files are required to exist in this directory if only the safety briefing is downloaded. Do not copy files from the
Airlines/FSL folder – they will be loaded by default if the system cannot load an airline specific announcement.
Remember to ensure the ‘airline_icao_code’ is set correctly for the aircraft designated to use the safety briefing. Refer to the
previous section for instructions.
4. ANNOUNCMENT SIMULATION
There are a number of cabin announcements that play throughout the flight. This chapter will illustrate the triggers for each
announcement and also provide an example announcement script.
The key element to ensuring that the cabin announcements play correctly is to make sure that the seat belt signs
are on before push back.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you have just joined us, a very warm welcome on board this British Airways flight.
Just a reminder about hand luggage – small bags may be kept underneath the seat in front of you. All other
items must be placed into an overhead locker. Please place your bags right inside the locker as they can
sometimes fall out and may injure someone. If your bag has wheels, please put it in wheels first. We’d
appreciate your assistance, by closing the overhead lockers once they are completely full. If you are seated in
an emergency exit row, or a front row bulkhead seat – all your items must be placed into an overhead locker –
as the floor area around your seat must be kept completely clear. Your seatbelts can now be fastened for
departure.

Ladies and gentlemen, can I have your attention please. A potential emergency situation has arisen and as a
precaution, we’ll be preparing the cabin for an emergency landing. You must listen carefully to the following
instructions. You must now switch off all electronic devices, put your arm rests down, tray tables stowed and
open the window blinds. Place all cabin baggage under the seat in front of you, or in the overhead lockers.
Please remove any high heeled shoes and fasten your seatbelt tightly. When you hear BRACE BRACE, please
adopt the following position – both feet apart on the floor, with your legs back against your seat. Rest your head
on the seat in front of you. Place your hands ontop of your head, one on top of the other, like this. Remain in
this position until the aircraft has come to a complete stop and you hear “Unfasten your seatbelts and get out!”.
The cabin crew will now point out your nearest usable exit. There are two doors at the rear of the cabin, two
over wing exits, and two at the front of the aircraft. Floor lighting will guide you to an exit. Please do not open
an exit if any danger is present. You must leave all personal items onboard when evacuating. Please study
your safety cards until you hear “BRACE BRACE”.
