Analysis & Design for Axial Tension

Allowable Stress Design Method
-ASD Method
Allowable Stress Design (ASD) is also referred to as
the service load design or working stress design (WSD). The
basic conception (or design philosophy) of this method is that
the maximum stress in a structural member is always smaller
than certain allowable stress in bridge working or service
conditions.
Load Resistance Factor Design Method
– LRFD Method

Load and Resistance Factor Design is a major advance

toward rational design of steel-framed buildings. It combines the
limit states of strength and serviceability with a modern
probability-based approach to structural reliability. After a
historical introduction, the method is defined and a generalized
LRFD format is developed.
