Benefits of Physical Activities

Being active not only keeps children and young people fit and healthy, but provides all kinds of social,
emotional and intellectual benefits.
1. improved emotional wellbeing - helps young children feel more confident, happy and relaxed,
with improved self-esteem and self-concept
2. improved health - encourages healthy growth and development of children's bodies, and
similar benefits of physically active adults
3. improved mental health - improves concentration skills and ability to manage anxiety and stress
4. enhanced social skills - develops skills such as cooperation and teamwork, and a great way to
have fun, meet new people and develop friendships
5. increased capacity for learning and productivity - active children are generally more motivated
and better organised than children who are inactive, and physical activity has direct links to
improved learning outcomes
6. a more positive school environment - active students are generally less aggressive and
experience fewer discipline problems
7. a reduction in anti-social behaviour - active children are less likely to smoke, use illicit drugs or
be involved in criminal activity.

HERE IS YOUR WORK

Recreation is very important for one’s overall well-being at the same time it improves one’s quality of
life. It is then necessary to balance work/study and recreation to achieve these.

Activity # 1 Physical Activity Video (30 points)

1) Think of 2 physical activities that you like which you can easily and safely do at home. Think long-
term. It would be better if you can do these physical activities on a regular basis in the future, so as to
promote lifelong health.
2) Prepare the needed materials/equipment (only if necessary).
3) Do physical activity 1 during our asynchronous PE period and physical activity 2 during your leisure
time for at least 30 minutes per physical activity.
4) Wear proper attire. Do warm up and cool down exercises before and after doing the activity.
5) Take a 1-minute time-lapse video per physical activity. Edit and collate into one whole video, so it’s
a total of 2-minute time-lapse videos. Label each video with the title of the physical activity.
6) Upload the video on YouTube and change the setting to Unlisted so that only those with the link can
view your video. Submit the link on Canvas and the Physical Activity Journal at the end of the second
week.

SELF-ASSESSMENT

Activity #2 Physical Activity Journal (20 points)

Answer the following questions and use the template on Physical Activity Journal that is provided in
the link below.
1. What are your 2 physical activities and why did you choose them?
2. What did you feel when you were doing each of your chosen physical activities?
3. In your own experience, write down 2 benefits that you think you acquired by doing the two
physical activities (4 benefits all in all). Make sure not to copy paste from the internet.

Use this Canva link to type in your answers. Save as a PDF file and upload such file on Canvas.
