Isteaadah and Basmalah

Levels of Recitation of the
Qur’an & manners of the

Internal manners while reading the Qur’an

● Understanding of the origin of the words of Allah.

● Putting into the heart and believing the understanding that these are not
the words of a man.

● Presence of the heart while reading

● Pondering the meaning of the verses of the Qur’an also called as tadbeer
by understanding by the means of Tafseer, deep thinking and
consideration.

● Understanding the meaning

● Individulization, meaning thinking every thing in the Qur’an as a guidance


for yourself and feel every message was sent for him/her,
External manners while reading the Qur’an

● Purity of the body, clothes and place.

● Facing the Qibla

● Not reading while yawning

● Avoid talking to people while reading

● Stopping at the verses of warning and seeking Allah's protection



● Stopping at the verses of mercy and asking The Merciful for his
bounty

● Humbleness and crying while reading


External manners while reading the Qur’an
1. At Tilawah:
Reading thr Qur’an either loudly or silently while following the rules of
Tajweed in which the reading is audibke to the reader or those near him.

2. Itla’a:
Reading the Qur’an by looking at it with the eyes only without moving
the parts responsible for speech and without observing the letters and
the rules of Tajweed,

3. The reader must cut of (Wajib)this reading in case of:


● For answering back the Salam
● Saying Alhamdulilah after sneezing
● Saying Ya Rahmaku Allah to a sneezer
● It is Sunnah Mustahabba to stop while reading the Qur’an and answer
the adhaan.
Levels of Recitation of the
Qur’an
There are 3 levels of recitation
● Tahqeeq :
It is reading the Quran slowly while pondering the meaning of the Ayaahs and
observing all the tajweed rules.

● Al Hadr :
It is swift (fast) methord of reading the Quran while preserving and
observing the rules of Tajweed.

● At Tadweer:
It is reading at a level in between Tahqeeq and Hadr while taking care of all
the rules of Tajweed.

At Tarteel is not a level of recitation but it combines all the elements of Tahqeeq,
Hadr and Tadweer while adding a good voice with the implications of the tajweed
rules,

Principles Of
Tajweed
Principles of Tajweed

● The founder from the partical point of view is the prophet Muhammed
saws.

● The rule setter from the scientific point of view are Abdullah bin
Salaam or Abu Aswad ad Dawly

● Knowledge of Tajweed is fard kifayah meaning someone in the


community must have learned it.

● Application of Tajweed is fard Ay’an meaning it is required by all the


muslims.

Isteadah
ِ ‫ان َفٱسْ َت ِع ْذ ِب ه‬
َ ‫ٱَّلل ِم َن ٱل هشي‬
‫ْط ٰـ ِن ٱلره ِج ِيم‬ َ ‫َفإِ َذا َق َر ْأ‬
َ ‫ت ْٱلقُرْ َء‬
“When you recite the Quran, seek refuge with Allah from
Satan, the accursed.” (surah Nahl: 98)

it is Wajib (Compulsory) to say the isti‘aathah at


the beginning of reciting the Quran, so long that the
recitation is not cut off.
The scholars say that this Ayaah of Surah Nahl is a proof that it is
Wajib.
Basmalah
ِ ‫ِبسْ ِم ه‬
‫ٱَّلل ٱلره حْ َم ٰـ ِن ٱلره ِح ِيم‬
“In the Name of Allah the Most Compassionate, Most
Merciful.”
Basmalah must be read at the beginning of All the Surahs ●
except for Surah tawbah.

While reading the Surah from the middle the reader has ●
an option to read the Basmalah or NOT to read the
Basmalah.
Ways of joining the isteadah & Basmalah
While reading in Between
While starting from the
two surahs in order of the
beginning of the Surah

Ayaah

Wasl basmalah maa Surah NOT ALLOWED to join the Basmalah with the
last ayah of the surah then stop at it, because
Isteadah (stop) Basmalah + 1st Ayaah it indicates that Basmalah is the last Ayaah.

When reading Surahs not in order of the


mushaf

Qata Al Jamee Qata Awwal wa wasal


End of Ayaah (stop) at thani
Basmalah (stop) End of Ayaah (stop)
New Surah Basmalah + New Surah

When reading from the
middle of the Surah

If the reader chooses to


say the Basmalah

When reading from the
middle of the Surah

If the reader chooses NOT to


say the Basmalah

Join Isteadah + Isteadah (stop)
Ayaah Ayaah
The reader must take note of the following while reading from the
middle of the Surah:

1. Joining Isteaadh with the names or attributes of Allah is not allowed.

2. Joining Isteaadh with the name of our prophet Muhammed (saws) is not
allowed.

3. Joining Isteedah with the attributes of Mumineen is not allowed.

It is better to choose Basmalah here

Care must be taken not to join the istedaah with the names , adjectives, arttributes of Allah, with the
name of the Prophet Muhammed (saws) and with ak muminoon. Also if joining the isteadah with the
beginning of an Ayaah if it gives a bad or wrong meaning.
In this case ONLY Qata al Jamee is Allowed.
Ways of joining the Surah Tawbah to any of the previous
Surahs

When joining with surahs after surah


Tawbah or repeat Surah Tawbah there is
ONLY one way
