Solutions Stoichiometric

1. A solution containing Na2SO4 was treated with 28.40 mL of 0.150 M of BaCl2


solution until all the sulfate ion had reacted to form BaSO4. The net equation

Calculate the mass of Na2SO4 in the solution.

2. An analyse of a sample chlordane, C10H6Cl8 was carried out on 1.446 g of


sample converting all of the chlorine to chloride ions. This aqueous solution
required 91.22 mL of 0.140 M AgNO3 to precipitate all of the chloride ion as
AgCl. Calculate the percentage of chlordane in the original solution. [Given

4. A sample of a copper ore with a mass of 0.4875 g was dissolved in acid. A


solution of potassium iodide was added, which cause the reaction

The I3– that formed reacted with exactly 30.06 mL of 0.0210 M Na2S2O3
according to the following equation.

Cumulative Problems

1. 150.0 g of 0.220 m of of iron(III) chloride solution is mixed with 1.00% by mass


of 150.0 g of sodium fluoride solution. The precipitate of iron(III) fluoride is
formed and isolate and then dry it to a constant mass. Calculate the mass of
the solid iron(III) fluoride.

Determine the mole fraction of each substance left in the solution (residue) after
isolation of iron(III) fluoride. Assume the density of both solutions are 1.00 g/mL
and the mass of residue is the total mass of both solutions.
