 ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

PART 1

PURPOSE
The purpose of this assignment is to expose learners to design an English for Specific
Purpose (ESP) course for those who generally have intermediate-level English language
proficiency or higher.

TASK 1: ESP COURSE DESIGN (70 MARKS)

You are required to design a short course for employees of a hotel chain. Your course must
have the following specifications:
1) Course topic – “English Language for Professional Purposes: Verbal Communication
for Hotel Front Desk Personnel”.
2) Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) (3 to 4 outcomes).
3) FIVE topics that covered all the CLOs – provide a description and brief lesson
activities of each topic.
4) TWO relevant theories you use to design the course - justify these theories and
discuss how you can apply these theories in the course activities.
5) The suggested platform(s) - for example, physical classroom, Google Meet, MS
Team, Zoom – Provide a rationale for the chosen platform.
6) Teaching and learning strategies - ensure that the strategies are in line with the
objectives and theories you have chosen and provide rationales for choosing these
strategies.
7) Suggested resources and materials – provide rationales of your choice and the
materials must describe in the lesson plan in Task 2.
8) Leaners’ assessment method(s) – justification for choosing this assessment
