Box Stitch (C2C): With I hook and first color, ch5, Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each of the
next 2 st. 1st box stitch made
Increase rows: Chain 5, Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each of the next 2 sts, turn and slst into
chain 2 space of previous box stitch. Ch2 (counts as a Dc,) Dc 3 more in same space.
Decrease rows: once you have done your last Dc of the last increase Ch1 and turn, make 3
slsts along your last box stitch, ending in the ch 2 space. Ch 2 (counts as DC) Dc 3 more in
space, slst to ch 2 of next box stitch.
I normally crochet around the entire square at this point for 2 reasons, first it reinforces the
shape and it is less likely to stretch and mess up the image. Secondly it will make it so much
easier to sew together at the end.
Joining method: (a video link coming soon!) I use 2 needles each with the color of squares I’m
sewing. Ex: blue and orange square = blue (on left/top) and orange (on right/bottom) yarn on
needles.
With wrong sides facing: Taking the “blue” needle wrap under orange yarn on needle and
coming up from the right side of the blue square pull tight. Take “orange” needle and come up
from the right side to the wrong side of the orange square, pull tight. Continue this pattern to the
end. Here is a video showing how I sew the squares together. C2C tutorial
