Question # 1: [CLO2, C3] (10)

a) Implement the transformation techniques of variables on the following signal h( n ) to
decompose it in its even and odd parts.

Equivalently written as h(n) = 6 5 4 3 2 1 0

b) Implement the technique of convolution in z-domain to compute y (n) = x(n) * h(n) where
x ( n ) is the input signal and h ( n ) is the response signal. The impulse response of linear time
invariant system is

h(n) = 1 2 0 −1

and the input signal x ( n ) is

x(n) = 4 3 2 4

c) Apply z-transform to determine the ROC, and the locations of poles and zeros of X(z) for the
following signal:
 −1 
n n
1
x[n] =   u[n] +   u[n]
5  9 
d) i.) Consider the following signal
n
y ( n) =  x(k )
k =−

By using the convolution property express the z-transform of the above in terms of X(z)
ii.) Implement the property of convolution in z-domain to determine the z-transform of two unit
step signals one as the input signal while other as the response signal, determine the z transform
of x(n) = (n + 1) u(n) .
