Good Morning Everyone, I’m Angelica Aruyal, your reporter for today.

Today I will discuss a new topic

which is Media Literacy. I know that all of us are familiar with this kind of literacy because we are now
21st century learners right? and media is everywhere.

So, according to Lynch, media refers to communication channels through which we disseminate news,
music, movies, education, promotional messages and other data. It can be in print media, audio media,
visual media and etc.

Always put in mind that if you hear the word media literacy, it is the ability to Access, Analyze, Evaluate,
Create, and Act using all forms of communication. Also, as a media literate we can easily understand
complex messages received from television, radio, Internet, newspaper, magazines, books, billboards,
video games, music, and all other forms of media. As of now, a media literacy skill is very crucial in
different subjects in school.

With the use of Media Literacy, we can be able to identify different types of media that is helpful and not.

1. The use of media literacy is we are be able to know if the information is accurate and valid or sa ato
pa kay kun sakto sanan tinuod, so that we are not be mistaken if we disseminate information to
others.
2. All media products that you see, hear, watch, or consume are only a representation of reality, or of
life.

5. Media literacy teaches us and educates us about the different technology today. Kun unhon pag
gamit nan sakto, kun unoy ra mga iwasan kun maggamit nan technology.

10. Media Literacy helps us to search and surf in the internet. Dabo an ato masearch sa internet like
articles, post, blogs, issues, and also news. But with the use of media literacy ma aware kita or we can
know how to manage it well by respecting of intellectual property and copyright law and the ability to
identify truth from fake news.

Roles of Media Literacy

1. Media Literacy is how we think about all of the media around us. They learn to use examples to
support their opinions. Then they can make up their own minds about the information based on
knowledge they already have.
2. Media literacy is very necessary especially pag abot sa mga consumer of products and information.
Kay diba mostly kuman mga seller is on media na, so an mga consumers kay mag isip anay kun
jaon na product ba is credible before sila mo invest.
3. Every media message like news story, song, television show, and so on) has a point of view.
Whenever you receive a message, you should think about the sender's point of view and any
missing perspectives.
4. Recognizing your own point of view, saying what you want to say how you want to say it, and
understanding that your messages have an impact is key to effective communication.
Roles of Media Literacy

5. From celebrity gossip to magazine covers to memes, media is telling us something, shaping our
understanding of the world, and even compelling us to act or think in certain ways. It is how media works
in our culture.

6. So, in this role of media literacy it states that What does the author want you to take away from a piece
of media? Is it purely informative, is it trying to change your mind, or is it introducing you to new ideas
you've never heard of? When kids understand what type of influence something has, they can make
informed choices.

Next social media. I know na tanan ta is mostly using different social medias. So, when we say social
media it is all about sharing of ideas, thoughts, and information through virtual networks and communities.
Social media is internet-based and gives users quick electronic communication of content, such as personal
information, documents, videos, and photos. In today's society, the use of social media has become a
necessary daily activity especially saato kuman like saato pagskwela and even pag communicate sa ato
love ones. . Social media is typically used for social interaction and access to news and information, and
decision making.

Let’s move on in types of Social Media Websites.

1. Social Media News Websites is a sites where we can read news freely with suitable and credible
authors. Example, Digg is one of the more popular social news sites. On Digg Websites, members
can share news about almost any topic—from celebrity gossip all the way to politics. Users can
then peruse the news being shared, and when the come across something that interests them, they
can “digg” it. The more “diggs” a news story receives, the higher it ranks on the site.
2. Social Media Networking Sites are used to build social networks or social relationships with other
people. Like in Linked, In You can use LinkedIn to display your resume, search for jobs, and
enhance your professional reputation by posting updates and interacting with other people. So
tungod sa ini na sites, makahanap kita nan joint-venture partnerships which is makatabang saato in
our jobs.

Example of it is Twitter, is a quick and convenient way to share short posts, GIFs, article links,
videos and more.

know it kay basin puhon2 jaoy mga magkabusiness saato makatabang ini karajaw na mga websites.
This websites is which reviews can be posted about people, businesses, products, or services.

confidence, supercharge your social media marketing performance, and support your online review
management strategy.
I know that all of you know what is MIL is. Kay when we are in senior high school nsugatan na nato ini na
subject diba? Media and information literacy provides the backbone to understanding media and the role of
media in our society. MIL is the same sa media literacy which required to access, analyze, evaluate, use,
produce, and communicate information and knowledge in creative, legal and ethical ways that respect
human rights. When we say Media and information literacy, oo it involves technology. Like kun unhon
nato paggamit appropriately, awareness on cyberbullying, understanding related ethical issues; and
engaging with media and ICTs to promote equality, free expression, intercultural/interreligious dialog,
peace, etc.

Aspects of MIL

"Media and Information Literacy consists of the knowledge, the attitudes, and the sum of the skills needed
to know when and what information is needed; where and how to obtain that information; how to evaluate
it critically and organise it once it is found; and how to use it in an ethical way. According to Reineck an
MIL is the outcome of media, information and communication an technology or the ICT. Which refers to
all communication technologies, including the internet, wireless networks, cell phones, computers,
software, middleware, video-conferencing, social networking, and other media applications and services

Seven Dimensions of MIL

 In short, tool literacy is the ability to use print and electronic resources including software. This can
be taken to include the basics of computer and network applications as well as fundamental
concepts of algorithms, data structures, and network topologies and protocols.
 This is practically identical with librarians' conceptions of information literacy, and includes
concepts of the classification and organization of such resources
 This means knowing about how information fits into the life of groups; about the institutions and
social networks -- such as the universities, libraries, researcher communities, corporations,
government agencies, community groups -- that create and organize information and knowledge
 For those in graduate education, this would include discipline-related computer software for
quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis and simulation, as well as an understanding of the
conceptual and analytical limitations of such software.
 Writing is always shaped by its tools and its audience. Computer tools and network audiences
represent genuine changes in writing itself. To publish something it can via World Wide Web,
electronic mail and distribution lists, and CD-ROMs)
 Clearly this includes understanding of the human, organizational and social context of technologies
as well as criteria for their evaluation
 This would need to include a historical perspective (e.g. the connection between algorithmic
thinking, formalization in mathematics, and the development of Western science and rationality and
their limits); a philosophical perspective (current debates in the philosophy of technology, the
critique of instrumental reason, the possibility and nature of artificial intelligence)
Advantages of Media

1. Through television and radio programs, people get to learn about health matters, environmental
conservation, and much more.
masearch sa internet about mga health matters like unoy ra mga tambay if kun masakit kita. Also,
mahebay.an sab nato an mga effects and causes nan ato mga bisyo.
2. Through media, is aka search ra nato sa google or anny news websites mabasahan na dajon nato an
mga latest news. Kasagaran ngani mas mauna pa nato Makita sa media platforms an mga balita
kaysa jaon aja rata magbasa2 nan newspapers or mamati sa radio.
baja sija musajaw.
4. Some media are knowledgeable. An iban na media kay mkatabang sab gajud saato pagskwela. Kun
internet.
5. Yes, it is very easy and convenient kun mag access kita nan information through mobile phones kay
mostly amo naman jaon ato taghimo. Scroll down or up rata dabo na dajon na information ato
mabasa ug Makita.
6. An media daw kay isa na sa paraan para mapadako an sales nan is aka product which is right.
7. Yes. Ma entertain na ta kuman even if aja rata maghegdaay, ingkuray basta kay jaoy ato social
media.
8. Yes. Instead of printing information like in newspapers mas easy na kuman kay tungod jaoy na
television. Once e on nila an tv, makadungog na dajon sila nan mga balita which is mas efficeient sa
mga taw okay dili na nila need mogasto para magpalit nan mga newspaper or even printing it.
9. So with the use of media makatabang ini para masabot nato an different cultures and cultural
practices like for example jaon sa mga igorot.
10. Yes, isa an media sa paraan para maunderstand nato an an mga people around the world like the
races, ethnicity, religion and etc. by that, we can respect each other’s differences.
DisAdvantages of Media (Kun jaoy sdavantages nan media syempre jaoy sab disadvantages)

1. Common naman gajud na if your using media daily it leads you to individualism or gustuhon mo na
mag isa rakan kay syempre dili man kaw ganahan na madisturbo kaw. As a result, socialization
with friends, family and neighbors is affected.
2. Sakto. Jaoy media content na dili para sa mga children like jaon mga spg na salida which is need
gajud nan strong parental guidance. Sa kuman, Limiting children’s access to such content can be
difficult.
3. Tungod sa media, usahay rakan mapansin an newspapers.
4. I think, sa kadabo na advertisement in tv and radio it makes it boring an less attractive. Like jaon
5. Oo, tungod sa internet and media dabo na tawo an na scam or nahack an ila mga accounts. Ugsa
dili gajud ta musalig dajon na makilaya nato online.
6. Media addiction kay very rampant kuman isan na sa mga batan.on kuman na mahilig sa social
medias or even online games.
teenagers and childrens nanga adik saini na duwa and it results na dili na sila ganahan mangaon,
maligo, makig storya sa iban and bisan uno pa.
8. Through media media, an mga children or even teenagers mahebayo na nuan kun unoy drugs and
different alcohols which is not suitable for us.
9. I know na tanan ta jaoy mga idols na celebrity na Makita nato sa tv, Isan na mga superheroes, diba
kun Makita nato sila mag exhibition ato haod hauron which leads us to some injury. Especially an
For professionals only”.
10. Sa ini na disadvantage, very familiar sa at okay mostly saato nakabasa na nan mga post2 about
someone which is not appropriate na epost sa any social media accounts.
Integrating Media Literacy in the Curriculum

Oo an media literacy kay part nan ato curriculum pero jaoy gihapon variety of factors ini like wayay
krajaw equipments an mga mestra limited ra karajaw, also dili confident an iban maestro nan mag handle
ini. But, lynch presents six ways to integrate media literacy into the classroom for students to become
media literate.

1. For example, teachers need to discuss bias and sources. By showing students that media changes
depending on who produced it, who the intended audience is, and what biases may be attributed to
the source, this helps students learn to evaluate what they are viewing.
2. An teachers daw kay necessary na mga provide nan mga sources na reliable so that students jaoy
basehan.
3. Mahebayo dapat an teachers to compare and contrast kun uno na media an angay gamiton to
determine the best media to use in teaching.
4. Teachers should teach students in media altering photographs or stories pero dapat an students
should think critically sa ila Makita sanan gamiton.
6. Dapat ato e exercise or pahemoun an mga students nan presentaions para maenad sila and
mahebayo sila maghimo na different medias.

Approaches to teaching media literacy

1. Media Arts Education Approach sa ini na approach Makita nato na it is media arts education
where we should be creative and know how to use different expressions in creating arts and media.
2. Media Literacy Movement Approach is an attempt to bring traditional aspects of literacy from
the educational sphere and apply it to media. For example advertising and even music and videos
3. Critical Media Literacy Approach Students critically analyze and evaluate like sa representation
of crucial dimensions of gender, race, class, and sexuality.

In different subjects we are now using media literacy for example in this table.

Assessing and evaluating media literacy work

So, in assessing and evaluating media literacy work kay haod sab gihapon sa lain subjects na needs nan
rubrics. Also, . Students need regular feedback to be able to reflect on their progress and develop mastery
and that would remind them that it is an important part of the course.

1. As a result of this, media products are never entirely accurate reflections of the real world – even
the most objective documentary filmmaker has to decide what footage to use and what to cut, as
well as where to put the camera – but we instinctively view many media products as direct
representations of what is real.
2. Media literacy encourages us to understand how individual factors, such as age, gender, race and
social status affect our interpretations of media.
3. Most media production is a business and must, therefore, make a profit. In addition, media
industries belong to a powerful network of corporations that exert influence on content and
distribution. Questions of ownership and control are central – a relatively small number of
individuals control what we watch, read and hear in the media. Even in cases where media content
is not made for profit – such as YouTube videos and Facebook posts – the ways in which content is
distributed are nearly always run with profit in mind.
4. As a result, media have great influence on politics and on forming social change. TV news coverage
and advertising can greatly influence the election of a national leader on the basis of image;
representations of world issues, both in journalism and fiction, can affect how much attention they
receive; and society’s views towards different groups can be directly influenced by how – and how
often – they appear in media.
5. The content of media depends in part on the nature of the medium. This includes the technical,
commercial and storytelling demands of each medium: for instance, the interactive nature of video
games leads to different forms of storytelling – and different demands on media creators – that are
found in film and TV.
