(OUTCOME-BASED MODULE)

MODULE 1
INTRODUCTION TO GLOBALIZATION

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

This module introduces the learners to the concepts and various definitions of globalization as a process,
condition and ideology. It also exposes the learners to the academic and non-biased definition of globalization based on
political scientists, economists, culture and communication experts.

This lesson will first trace the emergence of these institutions historically. It will then move on to explain how
they affect the countries and people today.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of this module, the students are expected to:

1. Analyze the various contemporary drivers of globalization


2. Describe the emergence of global economic and political systems
3. Agree on a working definition of globalization
4. Differentiate the competing conceptions of globalization
5. Narrate a personal experience of globalization

TOPIC: What is Globalization?


LEARNING EXPERIENCES:

3. Do you agree with the idea that the contemporary world is characterized by high liquidity? Explain.
4. How have you experienced globalization?
5. Why it is crucial to emphasize that globalization is uneven?
6. What is the difference between globalization and globalism?
7. Are societies in the world becoming more similar (homogenous) or more different (heterogenous)?
8. What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of homogenization of culture? How about
heterogenization?
9. Which of the aforementioned views on the history of globalization you find most appealing? Explain.
10. What do you think the effect of a high dependency ratio in developed countries? In developing countries?
11. Is the heightened flow of people a unique feature of the current global era?
12. Has globalization facilitated or obstructed greater labor migration?
ASSESSMENT:

C. The World Made Closer

Instructions: You are to see actual application of globalization on the different aspects of daily life such as
politics, music, sports, film, celebrity, and disaster.

1. Answer the following questions:

a. Enumerate at least three of the most recent songs you have listened. Where did they originate? Identify
the nationality of the writer and /or artist for each music
b. What gadgets or devices do you usually use to listen to music?Where were these gadgets or devices
made? Where is the company based?
c. How did you access this music? Did you purchase them online or listen to them through YouTube,
Spotify, and other music channels?

2. Using the visual representation, create your generalizations and discuss: What is globalization? How would
you define globalization?

3. What metaphors are you going to use in order to improve your own definition of globalization? Enumerate
at least three and explain one of them.
