Subject- Mathematics Maximum Marks: 40

General Instructions:
1. The question paper consists of 14 questions divided into 3 sections A, B, C.
2. All questions are compulsory.
3. Section A comprises of 6 questions of 2 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in
two questions.
4. Section B comprises of 4questions of 3 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in
one question.
5. Section C comprises of 4 questions of 4 marks each. An internal choice has been provided
in one question. It contains two case study based questions

SECTION A

1. In an AP, if the common difference (d) = –4, and the seventh term (a7) is 4, then find
the first term. [2 Marks]
OR
For what value of k will k + 9, 2k – 1 and 2k + 7 are the consecutive terms of an A.P.?
[2 mark]

2. If x = 3 is one root of the quadratic equation x2 – 2kx – 6 = 0, then find the value of k.
[2 mark]

3. Two concentric circles of radii a and b (a > b) are given. Find the length of the chord of
the larger circle which touches the smaller circle.
[2 mark]

4. Write the discriminant of the quadratic equation (x + 5)2 = 2 (5x – 3). [2 mark]
Or
Solve for x: 2𝑥 + 9+ x = 13 [2 mark]

5. If the total surface area of a solid hemisphere is 462 cm2, find its volume.
[ Take π = 22/7] [2 mark]

6. The mean of the following frequency distribution is 25. Find the value of p. [2 mark]

8. A tree is broken due to a storm in such a way that the tree touches the ground and makes
an angle of 300 with the ground . Length of the broken upper part of the tree is 8 meters.
Find the height of the tree that was broken. [3 mark]
Or
Two poles of equal height are standing opposite each other on either side of the road 80m
wide. From a point between them on the road the angle of elevation of the top of the two
poles are respectively 600 and 300 . Find the distance of the point from the two poles.
[3 mark]
9.The distribution given below shows the runs scored by batsmen in one-day cricket
matches. Find the mean number of runs. [3 mark]

10. Prove that the lengths of tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are equal.

SECTION C
11. Draw a line segment AB of length 8 cm. Taking A as center, draw a circle of radius 4 cm
and taking B as center, draw another circle of radius 3 cm. Construct tangents to each
circle from the center of the other circle.
Or
Construct a right triangle ABC with AB = 6 cm, BC = 8 cm and B = 90. Draw BD, the
perpendicular from B on AC. Draw the circle through B, C and D and construct the
tangents from A to this circle. [4 mark]

12.The internal and external radii of a spherical shell are 3 cm and 5 cm respectively. It is
melted and recast into a solid cylinder of diameter 14 cm, find the height of the cylinder.
Also find the total surface area of the cylinder. (Take π =22/7) [4 mark]

Case Study 1
13. A group of students of class X visited India Gate on an education trip. The teacher and
students had interest in history as well. The teacher narrated that India Gate, official name
Delhi Memorial,originally called All-India War Memorial, a monumental sandstone arch in New
Delhi, dedicated to the troops of British India who died in wars fought between 1914 and 1919.
The teacher also said that India Gate, which is located at the eastern end of the Rajpath
(formerly called the Kings way), is about 138 feet (42metres) in height.
(i)What is the angle of elevation if they are standing at a distance of 42 m away from the
monument ? [2 mark]
(ii)They want to see the tower at an angle of 60°. So, they want to know the distance where
they should stand and hence find the distance. [2 mark]

Case Study 2
14. Your friend Veer wants to participate in a 200 m race. He can currently run that distance in
51 seconds and with each day of practice it takes him 2 seconds less. He wants to do it in 31
seconds.

(i) Write in AP for the given situation. [2 mark]


(ii) What is the minimum number of days he needs to practice till his goal is achieved ?
