• NTP - Network Time Protocol


○ Supports sync to <10ms
○ Very widely used
○ 10ms precision enough for normal operations
• PTP - for systems needing sync <1us
○ For deterministic systems
○ PTP applications
 Newspaper printing
 Stock trading
 Electricity Grids
• PTP distributes time from Grandmaster clock to ordinary clocks
○ Grandmaster clock - Source of time / Reference clock
○ Ordinary clocks - clocks synced to grandmaster clock
• PTP clock sync

○ Works at layer 2, layer 3 combination
