CHAPTER II : SCIENCE EDUCATION IN THE PHILIPPINES

Directions: Answer the questions and Activities based on the topic discussed and understanding.

1. What other government projects and programs are available for science education in the Philippines?

The Government opens Science schools for the gifted and excellent students that might have a big
contribution in our country in the future.

2. Are there private schools with outstanding science education programs? Identify and compare their
science education programs with public science schools.

Yes, there are private Science schools in various part of our country they offer free scholarship and
even dormitory for the students of those private science schools unlike in public schools they study
more about science and mathematics the duration of studying Science in those Schools are up to
80 minutes.

3. What is your understanding of indigenous science?

It is a science that relies upon direct observation for forecasting and generating predictions, its
power lies in its ability to make connections and perceives patterns across vast cycles of space
and time.

4. What are examples of indigenous science practices?

• Preserving foods

• Using herbal medicine

• Building local imigation systems and many more.

5. Why do some people believe in indigenous science?

Because, Indigenous Science served as a foundation for the development of way of living of the
humans.

6. Do you think indigenous science should be considered science?

Yes, Indigenous Science should be considered science because they contribute beliefs and
practices that later on become a basis of the next generation.
7. What is the role of indigenous science in the development of science and technology?

They contribute beliefs and practices ranging from different areas such as health, environment,
peace and order, agriculture, food production, astronomy, music and literature.

8. How do you describe your school?

ICCT Colleges is a nice school some of the teachers and the staffs are organized but the other
teachers are not because some of the profs always has a conflict about their schedules.

9. Is there any projects of your school that involves society and technology? Give us an explanation.

So far, nothing.

10. What Science school you want to go to and why?

In Philippine Science High School System because they have very high standards.

The Philippines faces multiple global and local challenges which require science,
technology and innovation. These include:
•the intensifying competition from globalization and regional integration;
•natural disasters, environmental degradation and climate change;
•and persistent poverty and increasing inequality.

2. Identify science and technology policies that could be adapted or implemented in the
Philippines.
The government of the Philippines should focus on supporting our local scientist
inventors they should be part on our National budget.

3. Identify Filipino indigenous knowledge.

Throughout history, Indigenous peoples have been responsible for the development of many
technologies and have substantially contributed to science.

Science is the pursuit of knowledge. Approaches to gathering that knowledge are


culturally relative. Indigenous science incorporates traditional knowledge and
Indigenous perspectives, while non-Indigenous scientific approaches are commonly
recognized as Western science. Together, they contribute substantially to modern
science.
