QUARTER 2 MODULE 3
GRADE 10 STE
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:
1. define binary numbers; and
2. converts binary numbers to decimal numbers vice versa.
PRELIMINARIES:
Greetings
Checking of attendance
REVIEW:
Activity – Find It!
The word search puzzle contains words related to linear circuits. Encircle as many words as
you can.
MOTIVATION
Guide Questions:
What is the equivalent of XXX in decimal number?
XXX is what kind of number system?
If 30 is Decimal Number and XXX is Roman Numerals what is 0001 1110?
PRESENTATION
In the decimal number system, we have ten digits from zero to nine (0 to 9), and that’s how
we all learn to count. In Roman Numerals symbols are I, V, X, L, C, D, and M to represent
numbers. In the binary number system, we only have two digits or two numbers: zero and
one ( 0 and 1 ). With these two digits, we can count up to any number.
ACTIVITY
Activity 1 - Align & Add
Learners will align a strip of cartolina (with written binary numbers) to the given
decimal numbers on the board.
Learners will add all the decimal numbers with 1 aligned to it.
Presentation of outputs
Activity 2 – Think & Write
Using the given sequence – 8, 4, 2, 1 learners will identify a number/s that will give
a sum of the given decimal number.
Write 1 below the sequence, if it makes the sum of given decimal number and 0 if it
is not included.
Presentation of outputs
ANALYSIS:
Guide Questions
- What conversion did we perform in Activity 1- Align and Add?
- What conversion did we perform in Activity 2 – Think and Write?
- What is the importance of the sequence 8, 4, 2, 1?
- Can we extend the sequence never ending?
ABSTRACTION:
The teacher will flash a slide show presentation of steps in converting binary number
to decimal number.
The teacher will flash a slide show presentation of steps in converting decimal
number to binary number.
