FORMAT FOR WRITING APPLIED PROJECT PROPOSAL

How to write proposal: A project proposal is a detailed description of a series of


activities aimed
at solving a certain problem. The proposal should contain a detailed explanation of:

• Project Title
• Objective
• Justification for the project
• Activities and implementation timeline
• Methodology, materials and financial resources
• Outcomes/Impact

Project title: The project title should be short, concise, and preferably refer to a
certain key project result or the leading project activity.

Project objectives: The objectives (or aims) should focus on outcome supposed to be
achieved from the proposal. The objectives should address the core problem in terms of the
benefits to be received by the Primary stakeholders/ beneficiaries/community as a proposed
outcome of the project.

Project justification: Due to its importance usually this section is divided into three sub-
sections

i) Problem statement: The problem statement provides a description of the specific problems,
the project is trying to solve in order to “make a case” for the project. The project proposal
should also point out why a certain issue is a problem for the community or society as a
whole.

ii) Priority needs: The needs of the Primary stakeholders (target group) that appear as a direct
consequence of the described problem. The needs of the target group should be prioritised.
Through participating approaches for example, if the problem is stated as poor infrastructure
in the community, the list of needs associated with this problem e.g. improved water supply in
quality and quantity, improved solid waste management, improvement of irrigation system,
etc. Methodology of participatory approach be specified.

iii) Proposed approach/technical intervention/customization: The project proposal should


describe the strategy chosen for solving the problem and how it will lead to improvement with
some description of the specific features of the solution proposed. It addresses why the
proposed
work is important in the field. PIs should mention their role in the relevant technical
interventions during and after completion of project to reduce the gap in knowledge or
activities.

Brief plan of activities and implementation timeline: The activities implementation should
describe plan of action, technology and resource allocation in detail including specific
information of the proposed project. The duration of the project should be clearly stated with
considerable detail in the beginning and the end of the project.

Role of Primary stakeholders

Methodology, materials and financial resources: PIs should clearly mention details of
methodology to carry out the project with proper reference e.g. scientific journal for the
method to be applied. All materials i.e. equipment/instruments, glass wares, chemicals, etc.
Also, PIs should mention expenditure details expected from UBA fund and other funding
resources.

Outcomes/Impact of project: PIs should clearly mention outcomes and impact on the
community
from the project.
Funding from any other sources

Any other salient aspect(s) of the proposed project.

Guidelines for SEG Proposals

Following important points should be mentioned by Participating Institutions


(PIs) in project proposals submitted under the UBA programme

1. The proposal submitted by Participating Institutions should have direct impact on


the beneficiaries in the adopted villages.

2. Whether the PIs have clearly explained the plan of action, technology to be used
and how it will be implemented?

3. Where could be the technology installed, who will manage and maintain? How the
system would be maintained after implementation of the project?

4. What are the funds required and breakup of expenditure details?


UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN (UBA)

5. Is the machine/device is available in the market or is it designed by Participating


Institution.

6. The duration should be limited to maximum 6 months.

7. The cost of the project should be mentioned as per UBA norms (Rs. 1 Lakh for
Technology
Development and Rs.0.50 Lakh for customization of technology).

8. Awareness/ campaign (Health, Safety, Plastic free etc.) based Proposals should not
be considered.

9. Basic R&D projects should not be considered instead if technology is available,


UBA may provide
fund for implementation of the technology in the adopted villages.
