Q: Open spaces for walkability of the people and public places (for parks) where families can relax in
most land use planning of the LGUs are not emphasized as priority in its zoning map particularly in the
central business districts, if there are portion available but seem a small area for the purpose. How can
this be facilitated in the process of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan updating? Can this be a function of
the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development in the review of the CLUPs?

A: I think developing the CLUP to include more open spaces is one way. I would also suggest the we do
Tactical Urbanism — e.g. a barangay can get together and decide on an area they want to designate as
open space. Sometimes, this means converting a blighted area into open space by spending some
money to rehabilitate it and spruce it up. (Manny Blas)
