expanding a lot, not just internationally. It expanded both locally and globally.

The impact of hospitality on our global economy is significant; across the world,

due to the number of jobs encompassed by the travel and tourism industry, hotels

and restaurants became the key players in this industry. One of the basic

fundamentals in the growth of the hospitality industry, especially in our country is

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT MSU-SYSTEM

Mindanao State University (commonly referred to as MSU Main) is a

public coeducational institution of higher education and research in the Islamic

city of Marawi, Philippines. Founded in 1961, it is the flagship and the largest

campus of the Mindanao State University System.

MSU Marawi Campus has distinctions as the Regional Science Training

Center, the Regional Carabao Center, and one of the country's Center of

Excellence in Teacher Education and one of the country's COE in Teacher

Education and Chemistry and COD for Information Technology. The university

has a mandate to integrate the Christians, Moros, and Lumads of Mindanao.

Mindanao State University (MSU) was established on September 1, 1961 through

RA 1387, as amended, was the brain child of the late Senator Domocao Alonto, as

one of the government's responses to the so-called “Mindanao Problem”.

The original mission of the university was anchored on instruction,

research, and extension. The 1954 Congressional Committee conceptualized it as

a social laboratory for national integration.

For the main campus in Marawi City starting with 282 students and 12

faculty members in its pioneering classes in 1962, it has grown to a multi-campus

supra-regional university system, serving over 69,000 students in all levels with

nearly 3,100 faculty members. It is the only university directly charged by the

government to advance the cause of national unity and actively pursue integration

through education.
Today, MSU has units in areas which cut across the Mindanao regions.

From a one campus university in Marawi City, MSU has grown to a multi-

campus university of eight autonomous campuses: MSU-Main in Marawi City,

MSU-IIT in Iligan City, MSU-TCTO in Tawi-Tawi, MSU-Naawan in Misamis

Oriental, MSU-Maguindanao, MSU-General Santos, MSU-Sulu in Jolo, and

MSU Buug in Zamboanga Sibugay.

On January 10, 2001, three CHED supervised institutions — Lanao Norte

Agricultural College (LNAC), Lanao National College of Arts & Trade

(LNCAT), and Maigo School of Arts and Trade (MSAT) — were integrated into

the MSU System by virtue of CHED Order No. 27 S. 2000, per Republic Act No.

8760.

Classes were temporarily suspended due to the 2017 Battle of Marawi

which started in May in the same year. Some students, faculty, and personnel

were evacuated to nearby MSU-IIT in Iligan City while others went home to their

provinces during the ongoing conflict. The school was unable to hold summer

classes in the campus. However, regular in-campus classes resumed in August of

the same year after a successful "Balik MSU: Somombak Tano sa Pantaw a

Mareg" campaign to allow faculty and students to return to the campus amidst the

ongoing war with security being strictly monitored. The battle in the city

officially ended later in October.

Information About MSU-MSAT

The Maigo High School was established beginning School Year 1948-1949

under the auspices of the Maigo Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The sources

of funds of the school were tuition fees and other financial aids from Maigo PTA
and the municipal, province and national governments. Unfortunately, the funds

were hardly enough for the efficient and effective operation of the school. As a

result, the bill was passed in Congress by the late Congressman Laurentino

Badelles which became a law on June 19, 1965 change the Maigo Trade School

into Maigo School of Arts and Trades with the salient provisions that vocational

sources of secondary and collegiate levels be offered.

NARRATIVE REPORTS

Practicum is a course of study designed especially for the preparation of

teachers and clinicians that involves the supervised practical application. It

emphasizes the importance of learning by doing.

We spent our work experience here at MSU-MSAT. We started our work

experience on September 7, 2021, now we had an orientation to find out the rules

and regulations on our stay here at MSU-MSAT, and assign which department we

belong to. Ma’am Dawn was not there yet so Ma’am Arumpac started to orient us

and when Ma’am Dawn arrived she told us which department we belonged to. In

the first week of our practicum Ma’am Arumpac decided to open the Cafeteria to

make our stay at MSU-MSAT memorable and we could learn to manage a

business. We invited the MSU MSAT teacher and faculty to dine in the cafeteria.

At first we had a hard time, because it was our first time to open a cafeteria but

luckily Ma’am Dawn and other DHRMT staff helped us overcome the difficulties

and they didn’t leave us until the business was running smoothly. As always,

business is up and down. But this has not been a hindrance to our sale, because in

this way we want to learn a lot not only in managing a business but to be humble

and be patient in every situation we face. On September 15, 2021 there was an

Orientation for Teachers, instead of selling food, we helped organize the event

and at the same time we were the server. We prepared food and snacks for them.

Our work experience here at MSU-MSAT has helped us a lot, so that we can

learn a lot with the help of DHRMT Teachers Specially Ma’am Mae Fitz F.

Arumpac. On On the Job Training, we need to know that The employee is trained

at the place of work while this person does the actual job. Most of the time a

trainer or experienced employee (manager) serves as the instructor using a hands-

on training. It tends to be combined with and supported by formal classroom

training. However, because it takes place during and in the place of work. it’s not

an actual learning process.

As a Hospitality Management student, we learned that hospitality is very

important and we know how to deal with the guest and are able to solve problems.

Because even if we are not in the mood we need to treat the guest or customer

well and we need to be more approachable because we carry the name of MSU-

MSAT Hotel, not only Hotel but we also carry the name. of our School. Even

though we are just interns, we are considered employees. By being in the Food

and Beverage service for a month, we learned so many things like how to portion

the foods, how to spend/costing and how to handle customers. On October 5 we

went to school early to prepare a snack for planting the Mentring Tree. Then In

the afternoon the Teachers also celebrated for world teacher's day. That day

Ma'am Arumpac gave us Plus 20 hours for our Hard work.

The first day of my duty in my second week I go to the hotel directly
