INFORMATION LESSON PLAN IN BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY AND

LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION

(Mechanical Drafting)

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
1. Identify the different types of measuring instruments;
2. Practice the appropriate use of each instrument at home; and
3. Value the importance of measuring instrument in mechanical drafting.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Measuring Instrument
Reference: Mechanical Drafting module
Teaching strategy: Convergent and divergent thinking

III. Lesson Materials:

Computer/Cellphone/Laptop, Google Drive, PowerPoint Presentation, Video
presentation, Google Form

IV. Lesson Proper/Procedures:

A. Daily Routine
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Attendance

B. Review of Past Lesson

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Let’s start our class with a review about your (Listen attentively)
previous lesson.

Do you still remember our previous lesson? Yes sir

What are the basic electrical tools Wire stripper, plier, screwdrivers

That’s right! (Listen attentively)

A multimeter is a measuring instrument

What is multitester ? that can measure multiple electrical
properties.

Very good class, I’m glad that you still

(Listen attentively)
remember our previous lesson.

Definition of Terms
Measurement–the size, length, or amount of something, as
established by measuring.
Instrument- one of the tools used by a draftsman in making (Listen attentively)
drawings.
Oblique - synonym of slant or slope.
Arc - a portion of a circle.
We have 8 different Measuring tools
T- Square, Triangles, Ruler, Triangle Scale, Protractor, Tape (Listen attentively)
Ruler, Compass, Devider

T- Square
Who can read?
T-square is used as guide in drawing horizontal lines and
measuring up to 48'' straight line. It is also use for guiding
triangles when drawing vertical lines
(Oral Recitation)
Triangles
Please read

Triangles are used for drawing vertical and oblique lines, The
most commonly used triangles are the 45° and the 30°x 60°. If
in use, the base of the triangle must rest on the bladeof the T-
Square. Drawing a line always starts from the point near the
base going upward. (Listen attentively)
Ruler (participate attentively)
Please read.

Ruler is the most popular type of measuring tools. It is usually

6 or 12 inches in length. It is needed for measuring sizes and
distances. Rulers are used for three main purposes, to
measure, to aid in drawing straight lines and as a straight

guide for cutting and scoring with a blade.

Triangular Scale
Please read.
Triangular scale is use in general drawing. Its main purpose is
to produce the dimension in full size or to reduce or enlarge
them on a drawing. Scales help a drafter keep the proportions
accurate. Its main function is to reproduce the measurements
of an object in full size, reduce size, and enlarged sized.

Protractor
Please read.
Protractor is use for measuring and setting of angles other
than those obtainable with the triangles. It is used to
determine gradations of the degrees when measuring arcs,
angles and circles.

Tape or tape ruler

Please read

Tape or tape ruler is a concave spring steel blade ranging

from 1/4"to 1" wide and 6 to about 300 feet in length, coiled
inside a carrying case. Metric tape ruler comes in comparable
widths and lengths up to 10 meters. It provides an easy means
for accurately measuring curved surfaces.

Compass
Who can read?

Compass is used to draw circles, arcs radii, and parts of many

symbols. It is used in a similar way to a divider.

Divider
Please read.
Divider is similar to the compass in construction. This is
drawing instrument used when transferring measurements, (participate attentively)
dividing lines and arcs into the desired number of equal parts.
It can easily transfer accurate measurements by adjusting the
divider points.

questions? Clarifications?

Questions for Discussion:

What are the different types of Measuring tools used in
Mechanical Drafting?

F. Value Integration

Teachers Activity Students activity

Measuring tools are essential for examining a finished product

or semi-finished products. The inspection or examination
operation includes checking, or testing an object basedon the (Participate attentively)
required dimensions given on a diagramor a sketch.
Measurements taken must be accurate.

Since you are all fast learners, you are now ready for our next
activity.
