In this module, describe one of the most important contributions to public health. Explain
your answer. (Relate it to what we experience today about COVID pandemic)
According to the information I have gathered in this module about Science and
Technology, I have learned that one of the most important contributions to public health is
vaccination. Vaccination, being one of the major factors which created a great impact to global
health, has become a success to the world. During the past years, after vaccines have been
invented, millions of lives have been saved from deadly diseases. Prior to the invention of
vaccines, dozens of deadly diseases, one of which polio, have killed thousands of lives but with
the onset of vaccination, the threats of these diseases have been eliminated. Vaccine prevents
humans from having risks of getting a disease. It works with the body’s natural cells to build
protection in the body’s system. Today, there are already vaccines which can prevent more than
20 life-threatening situations. Vaccines helped humans to live longer and healthier.
Production of vaccines for different viruses are really important and crucial. Especially,
with this current pandemic that the world is facing, the COVID-19, it is really evident that the use
of vaccine is needed for us to surpass this pandemic. The only way out of the surge of this virus
is to be able to find a cure, which is the use of vaccine. Creation of vaccine against Corona
Virus (COVID- 19) is the only solution in this pandemic. This is why developed countries have
the advantage compared to underdeveloped countries (like Philippines) in terms of resources
and technologies which can be used to create solutions in times of crises, like this one we are
currently facing. Many lives have been already lost because of this virus so, creating the right
vaccine, at this point, is crucial.
