Design and Draw A Developed Diagram

The document describes how to design and draw a developed diagram for a 2-layer lap winding and a 2-layer wave winding for a 4-pole DC generator. It provides the steps to calculate the number of coils, commutator segments, pole pitch, coil span, slots, and commutator pitch for both windings. Tables showing the back and front connections according to the winding progression are included for each winding type.

Design and draw a developed diagram/layout of a simple 2-layer Lap-winding for a 4-

Pole DC Generator with 32 coils. Assume single turn coils and progressive winding
type.
Solution:
Number of Conductors or coil sides (Z):
Z= 32 coils (2 cond./coil) = 64 conductors

Number of Commutator Segments (NC):

NC = N = Z/2 = 64/2 = 32 Commutator Segments

Pole Pitch:
Pole Pitch = Z/P Total conductors/Pole = 64/4 = 16 cond./pole

Coil Span:
Coil Span = slots/pole = 32/4 = 8 slots/pole

Number of Slots:
32 Slots

Commutator Pitch (YC):

YC = 1 (Lap Winding)

Number of Armature Current Paths (a):

a = mP, where m=1
a = mP = (1)(4) = 4 current paths

Number of Brushes (n):

N = P = 4 brushes

For a Lap-winding and Progressive winding type:

*Back Fitch (Yb): Yb = Z/P + 1 = 64/4 + 1 = 17 cond./pole
*Front Pitch (Yr): Yr = Z/P - 1 = 64/4 - 1 = 15 cond./pole

Design and draw a developed diagram/alyout of a simple 2-layer Wave-winding for a
4-Pole DC Generator with 62 armature conductors. Assume single turn coils and
progressive winding type.

Solution:

Number of Conductors or coil sides (Z):

Z = 62 conductors

Number of Commutator Segments (NC):

NC = N = Z/2 = 62/2 = 31 Commutator Segments

Pole Pitch:
Pole Pitch = Z/P Total conductors/Pole = 62/4 = 15.5 = 15 cond./pole

Coil Span:
Coil Span = slots/pole = 31/4 = 7.75 = 7 slots/pole

Number of Slots:
31 Slots

Commutator Pitch (YC):

YC = (NC + m)/(P/2) = (31 + 1)/(4/2) = 16
YC = (NC - m)/(P/2) = (31 - 1)/(4/2) = 15

Number of Armature Current Paths (a):

a = 2m, where m=1
a = 2m = (2)(1) = 2 current paths

Number of Brushes (n):

N = 2 brushes

For a Wave-winding and Progressive winding type:

Yb = Yr = 15 cond./pole
