ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to address the unending environmental problem caused by

plastic wastes especially sachets, and make solution from recycling plastic sachets into an

income generating product. The study made used of plastic sachets to produce eco-wallet, as

an income generating product (IGP) project. The primary materials utilized were plastic

sachets, nylon, needle, and zipper, which were available locally and relatively low in cost.

Findings showed that the products produced were environmental friendly and was cheaper

than commercial wallets. The products’ durability and uniqueness were also highlighted by

buyer as one of the major reason of purchasing. A total of 5 products were made and sold Php

20.00 to three buyers. Findings revealed that a total of Php 59.00 was gained. Moreover,

individual profit peaked to 59% of the selling price. The eco-wallet made from plastic sachets

was not just a great source of income but also one simple way to save our environment.
INTRODUCTION

Plastic is the most widely used material in all products, in packaging, consumer

products, building materials, electrical and electronics and industrial machinery. In 2019,

around 368 million metric tons worldwide has been the totaled production on plastic (Tiseo,

2021). Based on the statistical data, the mass production of plastic estimated to have started in

the 1950’s. From the 50 million metric tons recorded in 1976 it doubles for the next years and

continue to increase as the plastic production grow year after year. Plastic are mostly produced

from the non-renewable materials, that for it to naturally decompose, it can take at least 400-

1000 years.

The major drawback of plastic production is the plastic pollution and that’s when

humans thought of things in order to mitigate the pollution caused by the plastic production.

One of the ways humans considered is recycling plastic waste, from one thing to another. Most

recycled products were turn into something usable. The researchers decided to create usable

materials out of plastic waste by turning discarded plastic sachets and wrappers into wallets.

The study aimed to help mitigate plastic pollution through creating products out of plastic

wastes and to give idea on how to earn incomes with creating it out of wastes and locally

available materials.

7. Connect the folded strips into the desire length

8. Stich the edges using nylon

9. Stitch the zipper to the opening of the wallet

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Buyers’ Feedbacks

A total of three buyers bought the products. The buyers were asked through online

interview about the products. The table 1.2 showed the tallied feedbacks of the buyers towards

the product.

Based on the tallied findings, two out of the three buyers thought that the product was

unique while all three of them said that the product is durable. Moreover, two of the buyers

held that the eco-wallet is cheaper compared to other wallets such as the commercial ones. All

three of the buyers agreed that the product is eco-friendly as it can save our environment.

Product’s Profit

There was a total of five finished products made. Each item was sold at Php 20.00 to three

buyers and gained a total of Php 100.00.

Table 2. Product’s Price

Product Quantity Unit Selling Total Income Start-up Profit
Price Money
Eco-wallet 5 pcs Php 20.00 Php 100.00 Php 41.00 Php 59.00

Table 2 shows the total income of Php 100.00 and a total of Php 59.00 gained, which is

144% of the start-up money. It indicates that for every item of the product, 59% of the unit

selling price is gained as profit, which is Php 11.80.

CONCLUSION
Based on the given results and findings, the following are the drawn conclusions:

Plastic sachets were good materials to produce eco-wallets. Eco-wallet made from

plastic sachets was unique and has high durability. It is also cheaper compared to other

commercial wallets, and is perceived as an eco-friendly product.

It does not need a skilled person to produce eco-wallet products however it the

manufacturing process takes time. The start-up money to produce the products was relatively

low, and ensured a good source of income, with 59 % profit in a single product.
