LEARNING HOW TO LEARN

Analogy provides powerful material bout learning

Focussed mode - To learn a same thing in best way possible –
Recall the ideas while practicing. Space the practice time
over several days(spaced repetition).
Diffused Mode -(Does not mean thinking about/doing other
mind obtaining things) just relax and while thinking bout
same thing – To think bout new things
---brainfacts.org –memrise.com –Powers of 10 video
Tool to overcome procrastination : Pomodore technique
IT SAYS : Focus on a task for 25 mins & then give reward for a
few minutes
--Better to learn/practice bout things before sleeping
--Wheather you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right

INTERVIEW
--Learning by doing and learning by osmosis from experts
--Asking a question durinf lect
--Multitak –Switching from one toanother
--Enriched environment and Surrounded by people / Exercise
-- Zoom in and Zoom out from a problem
--Just write anything that pops in the brain while writing
CHUNKING
- Chunks are pieces of information that are bound
together through meaning or use that is easy to
remember
- In other words it could be said as relating pieces of info.
To get the overall picture
STEPS TO FORM A CHUNK:
- Focus ur undivided attention on info. You want to chunk
- Understand the basic idea
- Gaining context – Repeating and Practicing to when to
use that chunk

IMPORTANT STEPS TO TAKE WHILE LEARNING :

-RECALL!!!! (Also in various different physical
environments)(Instead of rereading the texts)
- Highlight things carefully(and not too much)
- Test yourself about what you’re learning continuously
and in mini-batches
- Use concept mapping only after knowing the complete
chunks
--The intuitive solutions reached via creative diffused
mode must be carefully verified using the focus mode
--Chunks can help you understand the concepts through
a process called transfer
-- Law of Serendity – Lady luck favours the one who tries
--When you are trying to figure something out, if you
have a good library of chunks, you can more easily skip
to the right solution by—metaphorically speaking
—“listening” to whispers from your diffuse mode. Your
diffuse mode can help you connect two or more chunks
together in new ways to solve novel problems.

-- Mix up your learning in problem solving with various

topics and think more independently
--Try to skip around solved problems in book and try to
solve them independently
--Deliberately practice what you find difficult
--Einstellung : Blocked thoughts due to proceeding
training
--Next time, try using diffused mode when stuck on a
problem(This does not mean use focused mode on
other thing)

IMPORTANT THINGS FOR ENGINEERING COLLEGE

-Find your team and make sure members are serious at
studies
-Objective is the learn the material
-Do problem sets to see where you’re wrong as that is
no the case for lectures and solved exaples
-Self explanation / Recall
-- Always have a mission: Goals for learning / Concrete
projects for learning something
--Fucking study for less time but very intently and
focussed(This does not include tests and practices)

Procrastination and Memory

Habit is an energy saver for us , It allows us to free our
mind for other types of activities. Hence : have good
habits
-Find ways to reward good habits
-Mental tools to overcome procrastination while starting
something : a) Think positive thoughts
b) Focus on process not product i.e. follow the process
of work for fixed amount of time no matter the
product(Basically it’s Pomodoro)

--Write a list of weekly tasks that you wanna learn in

that week.
--Maintain a daily to-do list (Before sleeping)
--Try to work on most important and most disliked task
first in the morning
--Build bit by bit day by day solid neural scaffolds

MEMORY PALACE TECHNIQUE

Imagine items I the list to be available in the places you’re
familiar with(Make items rememberable/Surprising) or any
formula or smthng. The funnier and more evocative the
image is , the better
HOW TO LEARN BETTER
1) Exercise
2) Visualize/Imagine the concepts….Make metaphors
3) People learn by trying to make sense out of the
information they perceive
4) Your thoughts are important : Change thoughts/Change
life(Take pride in who u are especially the things that
make u different)
THE TEST CHECKLIST
1) Did you make a serious effort to understand the text
2) Did you work out the H.W. problems with others or
atleast checked/reviewed the answers with oters
3) Did you participate actively in GDs
4) Did you consult with the instructor
5) Did you understand ALL your homework problem
solutions
6) Did you asked for H.W. problem explanation that we’re
not clear
7) A study guide
TEST TIPS
8) ***Hard start-Jump easy : Used to tackle tests
9) Breath
10) Try consciously relaxing your tongue
11) Blink , Shift your attention , double check your
answer
