4. Show that the displacement field u1=Ax1+3x2, u2=3x1-Bx2, u3=5 gives a state of plane
strain. Determine the relationship between A and B for which the deformation is
constant volume type.

Where e is a constant . Find the Eulerian form of description and determine the
displacement components.

7. The square plate as shown in figure is loaded so that the plate is in state of plane
strain (e33 = e31 = e32 = 0).
Determine the plane strain (e11, e22, e12) for the plate given the deformations shown.
8. For the following plane strain distribution, verify whether the compatibility condition
is satisfied:
e11 = 27x2y3, e22 =10x+y, e12 = 5y2

9. State the relationship (of A, B & C) under which the following is a possible system of
(plane) strains:
e11 = Ax+By2
e22 = Ay+Bx2
e12 = C

10. The displacement field in micro units for a body is given by:
u = (x2 + y) i + (3 + z) j + (x2 + 2y) k

Determine the principal strains at (3, 1, 2) and the direction of the minimum
principal strain.
