In this paper, I will be explaining the changes in memory of older adults and what they

can do to minimize the effects of memory loss, function, etc… So when we begin to age, our

brain begins to break down as our other organs in our body tend to do. One change a older adult

may begin to expect is their ability to remember placement of objects, names of people, or a task

they were preparing to do. They also may forget how to do some tasks that in their younger

years, they were able to do with ease. Not only this but also, older adults have a hard time with

timing such as holding a power button to restart a device or something of that sort. To prevent

these things, there are a few things that older adults can do to prevent memory loss/function. One

thing I would recommend they do is to try and get some exercise each day. Getting exercise

increases blood flow to the brain which protects our neurons from cognitive impairment.

Another activity I would recommend would be to pick up the hobby of doing cross words,

puzzles, word search’s as doing these will keep your mind on edge and active. The last thing I

would recommend an older adult to do is to write notes to help them remember things that they

have going on throughout the day. By doing this it will help them to remember the things that

they have a hard time remembering to do such as taking medications.
