Standard Operating Procedure (Straightning) : Prepared By: Checked by Approved by

This standard operating procedure outlines the straightening method and inspection for headers, tubes, and panels. It specifies that the component should be heated to the temperatures listed in the table for the applicable material. The heated area should have a wedge or diamond shape opposite the bow. Pressure boundary welds must not exceed temperatures from post-weld heat treatment and should be checked with thermo chalks. Shop quality control is responsible for ensuring the correct heating and inspection process.

SOP:- STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE
STRAIGHTNING [HEADERS / TUBES / PANELS]
Straightning Method & Inspection:-

Shop QC shall ensure that the components are marked for heat straightening by outlining either a
wedge - shaped or diamond - shaped area on the component opposite to the bow in the component
(Convex side of bow).

Shop QC shall ensure the severity of the bow & the size of area as per bow.

Shop QC shall ensure that the marked area is heated (usually by gas torches) starting at the apex of the
wedge to the temperature designated in the table below. Composite tubes & panels shall be heated to
the temperature for the base metal. (i.e. 16500 F ( 898.9 oC ) for P1). Each of the tubes of panels to be
straighten shall be heated.

Shop QC shall ensure that heat is not applied directly to any pressure boundry welds.

Shop QC shall enure that pressure boundry welds adjacent to the area of the applied heat shall not be
subjected to temperature above that experienced during PWHT.
Shop QC shall ensure that if there is no PWHT, then the maximum temperature to be experienced by
pressure boundry welds shall be 13500 F ( 732.23 oC ).

Shop QC shall ensure the temperature of metal & weld by thermo chalks.
