REFLECTION: Tourism Destination Featuring the Province of Laguna

Laguna is the third largest province in CALABARZON Region, and is one of the well-known
provinces in our country. Not only a proud birthplace of our national hero, Gat. Jose Rizal, but the
Province of Laguna is also a home to multitude of natural wonders and traditions. From its marvelous
mountains, scenic waterfalls, and hot springs, to its sumptuous delicacies which really attract tourist
from different destinations. Laguna is not that quite famous around the world, but after watching the
Biyahe ni Drew to the Province of Laguna, it made me realize so many things;

I never knew that Laguna was formerly called “La Laguna”. Starting from the City of San Pablo, It
is a place rich in natural resources, cultural heritage, entertaining festivals, historical landmarks, and, of
course, wonderful food. From its special original Halo-Halo, they are also flavored with Chili and Salted
Egg. I never imagined that it can be possible. Additionally, the Plantsadong Lumang Lupa was very new
to me because I have never heard such delicacy named like that. And the uniqueness of the way how it
was cooked, it was very different and traditional looking. Moreover, I was shocked when Bato Springs
was mentioned in the video. I remember when the first time I went to Bato Springs, Unfortunately, we
weren’t be able to dive into the springs because there were so many visitors from that time. Starting
from the highway to the entrance, and up to the springs, it was a blockbuster. Furthermore, San Pablo
City was so broad, in a way that Laguna truly flourish because of its own resources, whether from the
waters or from the land.

Los Baños, Laguna is not new to me. I’ve been there in the past five (5) months when we went
to University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB). But I never visualized that Los Baños is full of
adrenaline. Coming at first is the Laresio Resort in Brgy. Tadlac, Los Baños, Laguna. It was fun watching
them doing such amazing activities and I did not know that, that exist in Los Baños. In addition, I think
that Coconut is the major industry in the Municipality of Los Baños. Mentioning the Lety’s Buko Pie that
started in 1976, it made the Province of Laguna famous of its Buko Pie products.

Heading to the Municipality of Lumban, is a man-made lake that it is to believe that it was built
in 1954, the Caliraya Resort. It is full of recreational activities such as kayaking, water biking, zipline, sky
bike, super slide, and the slide & fly. As an adventurous person, I really love thrilling activities like the
Slide & Fly, and I want really want to try it out after a stressful day.
Furthermore, I am not very familiar with Pangil, Laguna but it shook me of the Buntot Palos
Falls. Before arriving to the falls, it starts trekking from the bottom of the mountain, it gives me such a
good challenge. Arriving to the falls, you can just jump into the cold waters of the Buntot Palos Falls, but
as for me, I would dare to pass through a challenging rock climbing from the mouth of the falls.

Paete, Laguna is known for it sculpting/carving industry. Paete is originated from the word
“Paet”, a tool used to carve or sculpt. Its main product is wood carving. From their ancestors, they pass
it through generations to continue their tradition and culture in carving. It is just amazing how talented
Paeteños are, knowing that tradition and culture, and sculpting and carving is a very big deal to many
people. From lumber to fruits, from fruits to hard ice.

Knowing the people and how beautiful Laguna is, made the also the country flourish to different
aspects and industries. It made me realize how talented people are and how they are willing to continue
and value the legacy of their traditions and culture. It is just astonishing that Philippines has the most
hardworking and talented personalities.
