- Roles, Functions and Parts of Computer

Definition of terms
Computer – A computer is an electronic device that takes input such as numbers, texts, sounds, image, animations
and video. It is able to store a program and retrieve information from its memory.

Characteristics of Computer
1. It is a machine 3. It is automatic
2. It is an electronic device 4. It can be manipulated

Parts of Computer

Motherboard – Provides connectors for devices such as power supply, memory, hard drive, input/output slots and the CPU.
Central Processing Unit (CPU) – The brain of the computer. Processes complex functions in the computer.
Hard Drive – Stores programs, data and information.
RAM (Random Access Memory) – An integrated computer chip used to access any memory location or address on the
motherboard directly.

Input Device of Computer – An input device is essentially a piece of hardware that sends data to a computer. Input devices
either interact with or control the computer in some way. The most common input devices are the mouse and the keyboard,
but there are many others. The key distinction between an input device and an output device is that the former  sends data to
the computer, whereas the latter receives data from the computer. Input and output devices that provide computers with
additional functionality are also called peripheral, or auxiliary devices. An input device can send data to another device,
but it cannot receive data from another device

- Keyboard -Microphone -Scanner -Touch Screen -Touchpad

- Mouse -Joystick -Digital Camera -Webcam -Graphic Tablet

Output Device of Computer – any device used to send data from a computer to another device or user. It is usually for
display, projection or physical reproduction.
