1.0INTRODUCTION
The following procedure describes the work required to carry out the seabed preparation
work required for the installation of the side tap protection covers. This work will be carried
out from the DSV Subsea Discovery during November 1995.
On completion of the installation of 24” Gas Pipeline (approx. 40 miles long) from the NGC
Platform to the Dolphin Platform, by Allseas, SSOL shall mobilise a DSV to install the 24”
riser, riser guard , 3 No side tap protection covers and associated expansion spools at the
NGC and Dolphin platform.
The 3 protection covers are identical in design, each having a base cord dimension of 10.3
x 8.3 m, a height of 3.3 m and a weight in air of 34.4 Te. The structure is gravity based and
is designed to cover the side taps and provide protection from dropped objects etc.
This procedure details the seabed survey and preparation required prior to the installation
of the covers.
1.3 Objectives
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that all parties are familiar with the scope of
work and that personnel are aware of their respective tasks and the essential interfaces
for a safe and efficient operation.
The procedure provides “step by step” details for performing the works.
Drawings and sketches are included to illustrate the works, and identify the sequence of
activities.
1.4 Responsibility
The Project Manager is responsible to the SSOL Operations Director for the completion of
the work.
On the DSV the Project Engineer will be responsible for the overall supervision of the
works, and ensuring that the installation is performed in accordance with the procedures.
He will be responsible for ensuring that all the project equipment is checked on mobilisation
and that the appropriate personnel are familiarised with its operation.
The Project Engineer will also be responsible for checking that all rigging equipment is
correctly installed and in date certification is available offshore in respect of all project
rigging and equipment. The certification will be available in the Mobilisation Manual, DOC
No: AB-D-MA-03004 which will be onboard the vessel.
1.5 Definition
The following definitions are used in this Procedure
2.0PROJECT OVERVIEW
Allseas have been contracted by British Gas Trinidad Ltd to fabricate and install a 24” gas
export pipeline from the Dolphin platform to the NGC platform, Offshore Trinidad.
SSOL have been contracted by Allseas to complete the following work along the proposed
pipeline route:-
- 1 off 24” riser, to be retro-fitted (with clamps and riser guard ) to the NGC Platform
- 1 off 24” riser top, to be installed on the Dolphin Platform
- 1 off L-shaped spoolpiece to be installed at the NGC Platform
- 1 off Z-shaped spoolpiece to be installed, in 2 pieces, at the Dolphin Platform
- 1 off 24” Side Tap protection structure to be installed over the pipeline
- 2 off 16” Side Tap protection structure to be installed over the pipeline
- Stabilisation of pipeline crossings and expansion spools using grout bags and concrete
mattresses
3.1 Introduction
This section references the safety aspects associated with the preparation of the seabed
for the installation of the side tap protection covers.
3.2.2 Rigging
The Project Engineer will ensure that all items of project rigging used throughout the
project are correctly specified and that the test certification is in date for the duration
of the project. Copies of all certificates are to be available on board in the
Mobilisation Manual.
3.2.3 Lifting
Prior to use the Project Engineer will check that all rigging equipment is correctly
installed and fit for purpose
3.2.4 Air Lifting Operations
Due consideration must be given to the safe operation of the air lift at all times
during dredging operations. Prior to deployment project engineer will check to
ensure that all safety guards are fitted to the air lift.
3.3 Safety
All vessel personnel will comply with the safety requirements list in Document No. AB-V-
MA-00201 Marine Safety Manual CLDSV Discovery.
3.4 Documentation
The Project Engineer will ensure that in date certification and relevant procedures are
available on the DSV.
The following activities will be carried out at each of the 3 side tap locations on the 24”
Dolphin - NGC gas pipeline. The crossings are located at the following co-ordinates:
(Transverse Mercator Projection, Spheroid WGS 84 UTM Grid Zone 20. CM 530 West)
Prior to any dredging works, a survey of the proposed installation site will be carried out by
the divers using a digiquartz pressure transducer.
- Diver to mark out the corners of the structure as shown on drawing 03011-01 using metal stakes. NOTE.
The side tap flange is to be used as the reference point for all setting out dimensions.
- Diver to tie the pre-marked ropes between the corner stakes to set up a clearly marked perimeter.
- Diver to take digiquartz readings even metre around the perimeter of the cover as per drawing 03011-02.
-
On completion of the survey the diver is to return to the side tap flange and take a second reading on the top of the
flange.
NOTE: To compensate for any tidal variance during the survey the diver will use the top of the side tap
flange as a Bench Mark.
On completion of the Digiquartz survey the project engineer plot the data on paper and
draw-up sections of the seabed along the four sides of the cover.
From these sections the quantities of seabed levelling required will be calculated.
From the results of the survey the diver will be directed to the locations that require levelling
and will carry out dredging activities using an air lift.
On completion of the dredging activities the survey will be repeated and the sections re-
plotted.
