EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

DIFFERENT KINDS OF TEST

Intelligence Test
A questionnaire or series of exercises designed to measure
intelligence. There are many types of intelligence tests, and they may
measure learning and/or ability in a wide variety of areas and skills.
Scores may be presented as an IQ (intelligence quotient), as a mental
age, or on a scale.

Personality Test
Personality tests are techniques or methods with certain preset
questions to determine a person's certain abilities pertaining to his/her
personality. Personality tests can determine various aspects like
temperament, emotional response, sociability, stability etc. These
personality tests can be used to sketch out certain personality attributes of
a person which can help in many aspects.

Performance Test
The Psychological test requires teste to actually perform a task or
activity rather than simply answering questions. Its purpose is to ensure
greater fidelity to what is being tested.

Diagnostic Assessment
It is a form of pre-assessment that allows a teacher to determine
students' individual strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills prior to
instruction. It is primarily used to diagnose student difficulties and to guide
lesson and curriculum planning.

Placement Test
After being accepted by a college, students may need to take
placement tests. Almost all two-year and four-year college universities (public
or private) may require their students to take placement tests. Colleges use
placement tests in subjects like Math and English (reading and writing) to
check the academic skill levels of entering students. Then the college can
place each student in classes at the right level. The test results may mean
that students can skip some introductory courses. Or they can show that a
student needs more preparation before taking on college-level work.
Placement tests measure the skills you’ve already learned in high school, so
taking them doesn’t require much preparation. Many universities have
developed their own placement tests.
Criterion-Referenced Test
Criterion-referenced tests and assessments are designed to
measure student performance against a fixed set of predetermined criteria or
learning standards of what students are expected to know and be able to do
at a specific stage of their education.

Language Test
Language testing is concerned with the measurement of
language knowledge. Language knowledge is the trait and how we go about
measuring it is the method. Trait involves the ‘what’, i.e., the domain of
language knowledge, and method involves the ‘how’, the appropriate
procedures for measuring language knowledge.

Norm-Referenced Test
Norm-referenced refers to standardized tests that are designed to
compare and rank test takers in relation to one another. Norm-referenced
tests report whether test takers performed better or worse than a hypothetical
average student, which is determined by comparing scores against the
performance results of a statistically selected group of test takers, typically of
the same age or grade level, who have already taken the exam. Norm-
referenced tests often use a multiple-choice format, though some include
open-ended, short-answer questions.

Formal Test/Assessment
Formal assessments are the systematic, data-based tests that
measure what and how well the students have learned. Formal assessments
determine the students’ proficiency or mastery of the content, and can be
used for comparisons against certain standards. Examples: standardized
tests criterion referenced tests norm referenced test achievement tests
aptitude tests.

Informal Test/Assessment
Informal assessments are those spontaneous forms of
assessment that can easily be incorporated in the day-to-day classroom
activities and that measure the students’ performance and progress. Informal
assessments are content and performance driven. Examples: checklist
observation portfolio rating scale time sampling event sampling anecdotal
record.

Prognostic Test
It is a test which is designed to predict how well one is likely to do
in a language course.
Achievement Test
A test that measures a pupil's achievement and progression in a
specific subject or topic over a set period of time. Normally, the results of
these tests will be used to administer a grade for each pupil, and either
ascends them onto the next level of education if they are seen as ready for
this.

Comprehensive Exam
Comprehensive examination In higher education, a comprehensive
examination (or comprehensive exam or exams), often abbreviated as
"comps", is a specific type of examination that must be completed by graduate
students in some disciplines and courses of study, and also by undergraduate
students in some institutions and departments. Unlike final examinations,
comprehensive examinations are not linked to any particular course, but
rather test knowledge across one or more general fields of study. Graduate-
level comprehensive examinations are sometimes also known as preliminary
examinations ("prelims"), general examinations ("generals"), qualifying
examinations ("quals"), or as major field examinations. If these examinations
are held orally, they may be known colloquially as "orals".

Standardized Test
A standardized test is a test that is given to students in a very
consistent manner meaning that the questions on the test are all the same,
the time given to each student is the same, and the way in which the test is
scored is the same for all students.

Teacher-Made Test
Teacher-made tests are normally prepared and administered for
testing classroom achievement of students, evaluating the method of teaching
adopted by the teacher and other curricular programs of the school. Teacher-
made test is one of the most valuable instruments in the hands of the teacher
to solve his purpose.

Preference Test
This is a test measuring the interest of a person. It measures
vocational or academic interest of an individual or aesthetic decision by
making the examinees choose from options. It is designed to help you pick
careers based on your actual preferences.
Scale Test
It is formed in order to measure intelligence of children in accordance
with their age and with the intent of classifying children as a means for them
to receive special education; however, over time developed into a
measurement of intelligence for all children. (Binet-Simon Scale)

Aptitude Test
An aptitude test is designed to assess what a person is capable of
doing or to predict what a person is able to learn or do given the right
education and instruction. It represents a person's level of competency to
perform a certain type of task. Such aptitude tests are often used to
assess academic potential or career suitability. Such tests may be used to
assess either mental or physical talent in a variety of domains.
