Math 8 Q3 Module 3

This module discusses congruent triangles and their corresponding parts. It defines congruent triangles as triangles that have the same shape and size, with corresponding sides and angles that are congruent. The module provides activities for students to identify corresponding parts of congruent triangles and write statements of correspondence. It emphasizes that if two triangles are congruent, their corresponding parts are congruent based on the CPCTC theorem. Students are assessed on their understanding of congruent triangles and their ability to determine corresponding parts.

Activity : Yes or No!

Direction: Tell whether if the following figures are congruent or not.

3
Activity : Let’s Discover!

Directions: Study and match the vertices of ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 and ∆𝐷𝐸𝐹 then fill up the table below and answer
the questions that follow.

CONGRUENT SIDES CONGRUENT ANGLES

1. What can you say about the measures of sides and angles of the triangles?

_____________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

____________________________________________________________________________

2. Name the sides of ΔDEF that correspond to the sides of ΔABC:

3. Name the angles of ΔDEF that correspond to the angles of ΔABC:

a. ∠A ↔ _________

b. ∠B ↔ _________

c. ∠C ↔ _________

4. We say that congruent triangles have the same shape and size, how would you verify that two
triangles are congruent to each other?

_____________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

4
How did you find the previous activity? Do you now have an idea what congruent triangles are? Let us
process your answers.

1. As you have observed, the vertices of ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 and ∆𝐷𝐸𝐹 can be paired with each other since they have
congruent sides and angles where;

2. The table shows that the measures of sides and angles of the two triangles are congruent and when
two triangles are congruent, you will basically identify its six (6) pairs of corresponding congruent parts.

The word corresponds to means to be similar indicated by ↔. Now, to verify when two
triangles are congruent, their vertices should be paired so that corresponding sides are congruent and
corresponding angles are congruent.

In writing correspondence statements, match up the vertices correctly to make a correspondence.

Example 1

Show that the two triangles are congruent by writing a statement of correspondence.

5
Example 2

Show that the two triangles are congruent by writing a statement of correspondence.

Example 3

Given ∆ONE ≅ ∆SIX. Write down the six pairs of corresponding congruent parts of the two
triangles. The correspondence among vertices can be used to name the corresponding congruent sides
and angles of the two triangles.

This means that if two triangles are congruent, then their corresponding parts are also congruent.

CPCTC Theorem – Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent

6
Now, it’s your turn to apply the concepts on congruent triangles and their corresponding congruent
parts.

Activity: “Are We a Pair?”

Direction: Show that the two triangles are congruent by writing a statement of correspondence.

4. Given ∆BOY ≅ ∆MAN

5. Given ∆TIN ≅ ∆MOL

Great! You have reached this part of the module. To ensure your full understanding on the concepts
related to congruent triangles, it is important that you are able to complete each statement below.

Congruence means having the same _________ and _________ and it is denoted by the symbol
