Guidelines for Assessment in Listening and Speaking Skills (ALS)

TERM – II -- 10 MARKS -- PROJECT REPORT + VIVA VOCE

As per the guidelines of the CBSE an English Project Report has to be conducted by each student to obtain
the 10 Marks of ASL.

Out of these allotted ten marks, 5 marks will be allotted for the project report/script/essay etc. and 5 marks
for the viva. The Project will be ONE small project.

 The Project can be inter-disciplinary in theme. The ideas/issues highlighted in the chapters/ poems/
drama given in the prescribed books can also be developed in the form of a project.
 Students can also take up any age appropriate theme or a theme of their choice --- on current issues ,
political issues or social issues.
 You are free to choose a topic pertaining to your interest. Any such topic may be taken up that
provide students with opportunities for listening and speaking.

Some Suggestions of Topic /Theme for the Project Work:

 Black Lives Matter Social Movement


 Global Pandemic and Vaccination
 Travel Restrictions
 Supply Chain Diversification in Post COVID-19 Society
 Common Stereotypes of the Society
 The #METOO Movement and its Global Impact on Gender Equity
 Feminism throughout history: the most significant feminist movements and ideologies.
 Injustice, oppression and discrimination is detestable in any society. It is an offence amounting to
sin. Moved by the misery and harassment of the writers, state your Reflection
 Economic Disparity prevails in the cities and the countryside. (A Roadside Stand)
 Prepare a report on the pandemic situation due to covid-19 in which people lost their lives . Mention
also the cause and preventive measures for the same.
 Covid-19 and its impact on the education system.
 Corona Pandemic and the fallout on families.

STAGES INVOLVED IN THE PROJECT WORK

STEP 1 ---- SELECTION OF THE TOPIC

[While selecting the topic keep in mind that the chosen topic is Age appropriate , can be from the
syllabus, should allow a research to be conducted and give you an opportunity of Speaking and
Listening]

STEP 2 ----- PLAN OF ACTION


[Draft a plan to execute your project]

STEP 3------ RESEARCH

[It involves conduct of research on the theme or topic through interviews / surveys / surfing the
internet / podcast / videos / documentaries / articles read / or any other support material.

STEP 4 –DESIGN
Formulate you report in 800-1000 words

STEP 5 ---PRESENTATION

It should be focussed on Listening and Speaking Skills and topic related. Speak and share your
research outcomes in the form of a reporter / speech / discussion / journalist / talk show / etc......

STEP 6 -----SUBMISSION OF PROJECT REPORT AND PREPARATION FOR VIVA

Parameters for Overall Assessment

1. Pronunciation
2. Vocabulary
3. Accuracy
4. Communication
5. Interaction
6. Fluency

The Project-Portfolio may include the following:

 Cover page, with the title of the project, school details/details of students.
 Statement of purpose/objectives/goals
 Certificate of completion under the guidance of the teacher.
 Action plan for the completion of assigned tasks
 Materials such as scripts for questionnaires for interviews, written assignments, essays, survey
reports, and other material evidence of learning progress and academic accomplishment.
 The 800-1000 words essay/Script/Report. Student/group reflections. If possible, photographs that
capture the positive learning experiences of the student(s).
 List of resources/bibliography.

The following points must be kept for consideration while assessing the Project Portfolios:

 Quality of content of the project


 Accuracy of information
 Adherence to the specified timeline
 Content in respect of (spellings, grammar, punctuation)
 Clarity of thoughts and ideas
 Creativity
 Contributions by group members
 Knowledge and experience gained

The last date to submit your project report is Friday, 25 February 2022.
