SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
1. describe the process of the carbon cycle with high level of clarity
2. explain the difference between the short term and long-term carbon cycle;
and
3. illustrate a model of carbon cycle following the given rubric
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: Carbon Cycle
B. Time Allotment
This lesson will take approximately 20 minutes
C. Instructional Materials
 PowerPoint Presentation (PPT)
 Pictures related from topic
 Rubrics
 Short Video Clip
 Laptop

D. Teaching Strategy
 PowerPoint Presentation – the teacher will use a PowerPoint presentation as
visual aid for the lesson and let the students participate and ask questions
during the discussion.
 Inquiry Method – the teacher will ask questions to the students during the
discussion.
 Brainstorming – the students will think about things that contain carbon and
share their answer to the class.
 Group Activity – the teacher will instruct the students to group themselves and
create a model of carbon cycle applying the information that they have learned
in the discussion.

E. Key Concept
 Carbon presents in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide which makes up
approximately 0.04% of the atmosphere.
 Carbon Cycle is the global movement of carbon between the abiotic
environment and organisms.
 Short term carbon cycle encompasses photosynthesis, respiration, and
predator-prey transfer of carbon.
 Long term carbon cycle encompasses the weathering and erosion of carbon-
containing rocks, the deposit of carbon-rich plant and animal material in
sediments.
F. Process Skill
 The student will brainstorm ideas about things that contain carbon and
share it to the class.
 The teacher will make an interactive discussion through PowerPoint
presentation and give an activity about the lesson together with the
rubrics for the students to demonstrate their learning about the topic.
G. Values Integration
 Cooperation and collaboration within the group are needed to come up
with
the correct observations and illustration of the carbon cycle. Active
participation during the discussion is needed to assess the knowledge of
the students about the topic.
 The students will write a short reflection on the topic about the human
impacts on the carbon cycle.
